Discussion: Is Scandal-Plagued Gov To Blame For Dems' Surprise Win In Missouri?

Hopefully, because there’s probably a boatload of other scandal-plagued GOP Governors out there.

It just comes naturally to them…

Greitens is a product of Trumpism and Middle America’s tacit rejection of it. Greitens is asking for the same license that Trump gets from his base. That makes people queasy. What we saw in MO is the same thing we saw in rural AL - low GOP turnout. It’s all about Trump. It also shows that Trump’s ethical and moral transgressions do impose a cost.

Finger pointing when there are two pink elephants in the room. Not Trump’s fault/impact - it’s kinky unfaithful lying governor guy. Wait doesn’t that describe both of the pink elephants?

Just like the GOP lunatic trying to bump Brucie Rauner in Illinois. Even the conservative Chicago Tribune spoke out about the lovely Trumpette.

Greitens may be partly to blame, but that wouldn’t explain Republican losses of relatively safe seats in AL, WI, VA, and even OK. I’m inclined to think it’s more the Trump effect with the tepid Republican response to his unPresidential and unconstitutional behavior.

Let’s see what happens in PA in a few weeks.

So, to sum up, the only reason the Dem won is because the governor is an asshole. With the implied subtext being that the Dem’s victory was thus an anomaly.

The thing is, the ranks of GOP candidates and officeholders appear to be just chock full of assholes. Indeed, that’s the reason for the noted “liberal” enthusiasm.

So, sorry GOP, I don’t think that this is a reason to feel better about your future electoral chances.

Love this quote:

“The [Republican] candidate was poor, Democratic enthusiasm is obviously high, but those are still the types of things that we’ve been able to overcome for over a decade,” Dieckhaus continued, noting that the GOP has held the district since 2010.

In other words, we’ve been running crappy candidates for years and we still win.

To answer the question posed by the headline. No. What is responsible for the Dem victory is much simpler: Our candidate got more votes than the other guy.

I think they are trying to keep the trump buzz going.

Greitens is getting blamed for a shock Republican loss in a state legislative special election.

“It’s all his fault, all his fault,” said Tommy Flanagan. “In fact, he’s responsible for GOP losses in races nationwide. Yeah, that’s the ticket.”

…and HOW are they gonna blame this on the Democrats???

There is that moment when force of habit and tribal affiliation no longer suffice. Once that moment has passed, it’s hard to go back to the status quo. Here’s hoping.

By hook or by crook, I always say. I celebrate and encourage the governor’s determination to stay in office at least through to this November.

Had to be the governor – couldn’t have been Trump. Dear leader takes care of us.

Greitens ran as an outsider. And he is. Even with the republicans. They didn’t know him very well and don’t still. He’s made no friends in the legislature with his antics even beyond the sex scandal. He’s quickly finding out that it can be very lonely at the top. Especially if you didn’t take the time and effort to win over those who are supposed to be your allies.
