Big deal. Pick 450 employees who probably wouldn’t be doing anything anyway, give each a form to re-do, and then let them go as a further cost savings.
Obviously, the solution to this problem is to abolish the IRS.
I made it a short way through the article …
until the AP really started stroking it —
Fuck the AP and their bullshit —
All of which turned out to be unjustified. You might have mentioned that.
Republicans accused everyone and everything of liberal bias during Obama’s tenure. It’s what they do.
I’m going to be paying more; this year with itemized deductions and the $4,050 personal exemption, I had $17,000 total deductions, next year losing the medical expense deduction and the personal exemption, I will have to use the standard exemption which mean I will be paying taxes on $5,000 more than this year. When I called the company that handles my pension to increase my tax withholding, the woman I spoke to said that they have been inundated with similar calls. So, Paul Ryan has succeeded in screwing old people, even without stealing our SS and Medicare.
AP manages to report with a straight face the complaints of congressthings who for decades have refused to give the IRS enough money to modernize. Such an undertaking would be an enormous multi-year deal fraught with problems, but it can’t be done at all unless there’s enough money to make the investment while maintaining the current operation.
And of course we know that inefficiency in the IRS is the gift that keeps giving for republicans.
“Companies and payroll service providers — and their computer systems — had to adjust to new withholding tables crafted by the IRS to reflect changes in tax rates for different income levels under the new law.”
I own a very small business and “had to adjust” to those new tables.
What a mess! The old ones were, “if they have this marital status and this number of deductions, and earned more than this but less than this for the pay period, then you withhold this amount in round dollars.”
The new “tables” say: multiply the number of deductions by the standard deduction (which you have to look elsewhere the form to find that it’s $345.80 for monthly payrolls) and subtract that number from the gross wages, then if that number is above this other number you subtract the lesser number and the tax is $X.XX plus XX% of the amount that it was over the earlier number.
The other way wasn’t broke but they sure fixed it.
