Discussion: Iran Hangs Woman For Killing Alleged Rapist

What’s the difference between a Saudi beheading and a US “drone strike”?

A: There was some semblance of a court of law in the beheadings.

Not to be a spelling Nazi, but that should be “leftists”.

Like the word “terrorist”, the word maysound plural-ish, but it really needs the “s” to make it happen.

America executes people with mental retardation. We must be better.

I never called, nor consider, Iran a “beacon of justice”; what country is? Neither do I like to judge others, people or countrys, in absolutist terms.

I think it really depends on whether the US considers the Middle Eastern regime an ally or an enemy of the United States. And US public opinion is extensively propagandized in this regard and can be led by the nose --remember Iraq; witness Syria; “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran!”

Not every poster on TPM considers themselves “leftist”, if you can even specifically define the term. Some of us even eschew all political labels as simplistic.

If you hang around longer and more often, you might notice this characteristic for yourself; however, if you just troll-dip occasionally, you will miss it.

I wish self-identified “conservatives” really were about conserving the traditional essentials of the American polity; of course, they would first have to understand what those essentials are.

Pretending is the only way that “the rule of law” has ever existed in the history of mankind.

Are you talking about us or Iran?

Poor woman had to make a tactical decision. Had she allowed the man to rape her instead of killing him, she would have been stoned to death for sex outside of marriage. I would have chosen to hang, too, I think.

From what we’ve been reading about executions here in the U.S., hanging is probably quicker and less painful. It’s all barbaric.

a gang member, a jealous spouse, an armed robber, a drug dealer, a terrorist, a serial killer…

Yeah,us and them. Totally totally the same.

Christ, ordinarily, one must go to Ron Fournier for the kind of false equivalency this topic seems to bring out in people.

Ah yes, the oh-so-knowing worldly wise and world-weary cynicism of the dilettante that doesn’t distinguish between shades of grey and thereby circles all the way back around to naivete.
