Discussion for article #234359
Republicans, who have so much emotional investment in the U.S. being the greatest nation that ever existed or will exist on the face of the planet, also have a perverse tendency to act in ways that weaken us. The W years were a 8 year lesson in the limits of U.S. power, and now they are determined to present us to the world as senile.
Once the other 5 countries sign onto a deal, the power of Congress is effectively zero, since any sanctions imposed by the US alone are useless.
in addition to sanctions imposed by the US alone being ineffective a repuke pull-out, in the unlikely instance of a 2016 win, indicates to the rest of the world the US is a poor partner. Does not play well with others.
why is Obama and the democrats rolling over and taking this? these 47 traitors should be brought up on charges, period. they should be shown the line they have crossed and that there are serious consequences for such a transgression.Stop being such pussies, democrats.
For this particular story, I would use the word “mentions” rather than the words “confronts over”.
The real “confrontation” will be the American people against the Republicans, in the event of a stalled agreement, as people start talking about military options against a nation almost three times the size of France and with a beachhead almost halfway around the world.
It will be so interesting. The “Press” corps, as they deftly try to nudge the wrath of Military-draft-ignorant Millennials toward Mr. Obama, will be in Overdrive Mode.
Chuck, Andrea, George and Wolf will really have to cowboy-up.
The Iranians are using the letter as a negotiating chip. Completely predictable. Thanks Tom Cotton. You and your bros are boneheads. .
Iraq is a fking nightmare and it is nothing compared to Iran. Fk the Neocons and their little dogs of war, too.
Bottom line…the GOP hard right and Netanyahu are doing everything possible to sandbag a possible
deal and if the letter winds up being the tool to do it…mission accomplished.
Which would leave the US and its fellow negotiators back at square one and Iran in a position to
pursue the path the deal is designed to block. It’s a true win lose situation.
Because…the Rapture.
Gee, only because GOP nirvana is just around the corner of the light at the end of the tunnel…
A pie in the sky loser bankrupting his little family playing Lotto.
Kerry was rumored to reply “hey we have a gaggle of assholes in the house and Senate…we can work though this”…
Indeed.
The W years = the teenage years
The Obama years = the grown-up years
Sean,
I have a file on my computer labeled TPM and I copy quotes of TPM items that I like, or want to steal, to that file.
I just added your response to that file for the John-D.-Macdonald-like quality of the last phrase. It perfectly describes a character in a story I’m writing. May I use it?
And now we have the details on how much the rat-faced Senator’s letter has interferred in negotiations.
There is no doubt that these guys are traitors.
Prosecute now!
Tom Cotton’s group of traitors may wind up with the intended effect of damaging negotiations but at what price. He is singled out as the leading traitor of almost the entire Republican senate.
Negotiations will continue but these bozos have branded them self anti-American for eternity. That is the unintended consequence that becomes of not thinking things through and just playing poke Obama.
Who needs diplomacy when you can rattle a sabre.
Why are Obama and the Democrats. . . . That’s one correction. Second is you could have left out female genitals and still made a point.
Now, can we charge them all under the Logan Act? Maybe that is why Mitch won’t allow Loretta Lynch to come up for a vote. She has more guts than Holder.
According to what we know about voting behavior, men (read: white men) vote overwhelmingly republican. In spite of the the fact that the Republican Party, at this time, is a regional-in-strength, racist, xenophobic, insular, near-seditionist organization hellbent on making wage earners A.L.E.C. “production units”.
So, as far as MY political desires are concerned…it’s going to be enough of these men acting more like women, who usually vote decidedly more democratic.
