Obviously not a Luv Gov. He’d know Viagra would help him stay up…

GOP: Why should we be forced to vote? Or watch results? Just elect some white males. Do a coin toss to make it fair.

No love lost to Branstad but most states do close polls at 7 or so. Article might shoulda mentioned Iowa polls are open until 9pm central.

So basically to the folks who work, need to pick up the kids and then vote - “if you were more resourceful then you would deserve to vote!”

…I think a lot of people who work an Election Day would love to see the Iowa polls close at 8…

I work as a Precinct Election Official in Iowa on Election Day, and I would love to see the polls stay open even later, and start earlier, because I get overtime for everything over 8 hours.

So poll workers would get one more hour and voters would get one less hour.

They should all send Branstad a thank you card.

Or… we could be like the UK and use paper ballots. The results are often announced the day after the election.

Don’t let Branstad know that because next thing you know, he’ll want you to do all your officiating for free.

How stupid when silence would have conveyed the gist of the bill, yet not alert a court to the implications of voter suppression.

Man, they REALLY grow’em dumb in Iowa!

Same with Canada. And because its ridings (precincts) are smaller and more manageable, results are available within hours of the polls closing.

Iowa’s Gov. Terry Branstad (R) said Monday that he wanted polls to close earlier so as to “not have to wait up so late to see what the election results are.”

Extending the franchise to working Americans is far too inconvenient for Republicans.

Better to suppress votes by closing polling places early.

Perhaps after their three-martini lunch and before their afternoon golf round?

This weak link is going to find out what late hours mean as he works with a 12 hr time difference between Beijing and Washington D C

That’s just silly. That would interfere with nap-time.

…and the 2:30 round of “bang the staffer.”

The Governor has nothing to do with it, election payroll and staff is controlled by the Counties. They are already outsourcing a lot of the work I used to do (like data entry for voter registrations) to private corporations, rather than Precinct Election Officials who are State employees and even temp workers like me have to take an oath of faithful duty under penalty of perjury.

Good idea. He could set the voting hours from 1 PM - 3 PM. That way, the retirees can go cast their Republican votes before an early dinner, while the Democratic voters are still at work.

Even better, why not just post results the week before. The whole voting part can then be made optional – for those who like that sort of thing.
