If grassley was saying he’d betrayed the presidunce, then no, I wouldn’t think it was because pruitt is a grifter surpassed only by donnie himself, or because he was shitting all over the environment. Indeed, not doing those things would be betraying this president.

In a normal world it would be possible to see Ernst and Grassley as mainly just doing the work of serving constituents.
But we’re a long way from that world now and, like all but a very few Republican politicians, they can only be seen as violating their oath of office, failing to protect the Constitution and defending their nation from tyranny.
Being betrayed by the tyrant will be only one of many bitter lessons.
One can only imagine the outrage if this occurred during a Democratic Administration, but then, Trump skates every time. That’s what I call “sad.”
I’d give both of them a pass on their provincial justification if they’d take strong action to make their claim that "It’s time for [Pruitt] to go” a reality.

The irony is that the oil & gas folks are actually greener than ethanol producers – it takes more energy to produce ethanol than going with pure-play oil production… the benefits of ethanol in fuel are debatable and the fertilizer run-off, pesticides and GMO corn all have wide-ranging environmental impacts that no one wants to talk about… all for corporate welfare to large agribusiness consortia. (& before anyone goes all off on this observation, I’m not shilling for the oil industry – just noting that nobody’s hands are clean in this.)
yes, I had to write PBS NewsHour this very thing when they were going gung ho on an ethanol lab in a science segment parternship.
Yes, but: another, arguably larger issue here is that well over 90% of Iowa’s agricultural land is devoted to corn and soybean cultivation. Ethanol production is, among other things, a subsidizing of all that production; without it, the market for corn would collapse due to overproduction.
[Insert here a really long diatribe on how the mechanization of agriculture and the move away from diversified farming toward monoculture has contributed to fewer farms and fewer farmers who have become ever more beholden to this system, such that a threat to ethanol becomes a symptom of the existential crisis that American agriculture finds itself in.]
Yes–and corn is a notoriously-thirsty crop, so there are long-term concerns with water consumption as well.
Based on personal anecdotal data, Trump has done wonders for the ethanol industry, although in my case, my increased Jameson throughput benefits mainly Irish barley farmers.
