No, I mean the rank and file basejobbers. Even granting that there’s an entire Fear Industrial Complex devoted to filling all their fear needs 24/7, the amount of time and energy they devote to finding things to be afraid of, facebooking, combing through right wing websites, watching Fox, exchanging emails with hundreds of recipients that end with “SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!” And all the preparation–the gun hoarding, the stashing of duck tape and canned food and extra Depends. Not to mention the toll having your metabolism constantly under assault from a constant flood of flight or fight hormones. It must be exhausting.
