Discussion for article #236116
We need to quit paying attention to Iowa. It’s only a bellwether for states with the same demographics.
It’s still a sideshow. It’ll just cost the candidates less, which helps the less well-funded candidates.
Everything about these changes sound reasonable. Good on them.
“Critics complain the event has become a costly sideshow.”
Very appropriate, since the place where one finds a sideshow is at the circus.
more likely that even the nutjob republican’ts are having a hard time scraping up $30 for what is historically and politically a non-event.
Let me guess…they’re dumping the barbecue and going to a full deep fried menu!
everyone gets a EDM set while they eat korean tacos.
A shame that they had to move it from Ames and Iowa State University. Guessing the town was getting a little too “diverse” for them
More like the poll goers will stock up on some sandwiches from Casey’s General Store on the way in. And the only music they’ll get at the poll will be the “Singing Senators”. At least the eagle will get a “happy ending” if nothing else.
This utterly useless event, in a state that is only notable once every four years is typically a cash cow for the Local version of The Grumpy Old Party. It is, in short, much like Iowa, totally useless.
Yet the sheep line up every four years and we go back to doing this primitive, tribal dance around the fire.
Has anyone running for President who spends upward of a year and a half crawling thru the corn ever heard of the Internet?
The Primary system in the US is as useless as most of the people who go thru it.
Give each candidate for President a computer, and all they need to make a 90 minute Video.
If you can’t convince me in 90 minutes of doing or saying whatever you have to say that you would be the best President for America, two and a half years and billions of Dollars won’t help.
The campaign for President ought to be no longer than six weeks.
Voting should open on a Friday after five PM in each time zone. It should conclude on the following
Monday at 12:01 AM, giving people three days to vote.
All campaigning of ANY kind for public office should STOP under penalty of law on the Thursday before the polls open on the next day. No campaigning of ANY sort is allowed while the polls are open.
All media outlets of any sort are Prohibited by law from reporting ANY election returns or polls
before the Polls close on 12:01 am Monday. The media is prevented from broadcasting any election returns until 12:00 AM on the next day, Tuesday.
I know, it’s modern, and it makes too much sense. It uses technology, which makes the idea crazier yet
But when it comes to crazy, nothing surpasses the sham that is perpetrated on the American people every two, four, or six years. The only thing more amazing than the rank insanity of a year and a half to pick a figurehead, is the fact that Americans allow themselves and their backward Nation to be dragged thru a knothole while the charade goes on.
