Discussion: Iowa GOP Kills The Often Inconsistent Straw Poll

Discussion for article #237401

it would seem that based in the current crop of candidates that the best chance to ‘take back’ the White House is no chance…

‘if it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all’

Well…I guess when everyone’s pointing out that it’s the most pointless thing in the universe, it’s a good idea to just get rid of it all together.

I amend that, there’s more things which are more useless, but still…this thing has never predicted the President…in fact, I think it has a better track record of showing who will drop out first.

Iowa

Where wannabes go to confirm their loser-ness.

But what about the tradition that is being ended here which had made Michelle Backmann a household joke? Doesn’t someone in the clown car faction of the Republican Party haveto preserve this worthless part of history?

The TeaParty can blame Jeb Bush for ruining their fun. He didn’t think his time was best served by wasting a few weeks in a state that had too few electoral votes…and way too many farmers. . It’s not as if the rest of us haven’t blamed one or another Bush for destroying something, right?

“Read my lips, no new taxes,” Brownback or Pappy Bush?

Surely former Presidents Pat Robertson and Michelle Bachman are disappointed by this development.

Dammit! Now where will they hold the Grifters’ Ball?

Welp, that takes care of anyone outside of Iowa giving a fuck about Iowa.

Who was responsible for actually killing it? I assume it was the Oligarch wing doing their best to keep the Christofacist wing from screwing things up?

The Iowa GOP had no choice, really. If the event had been held, it would have demonstrated not only the insignificance of the straw poll itself, but also of the Iowa GOP caucuses. Preserving the status of the caucuses is more important for the Iowa GOP, so the straw poll had to go.

Shorter Iowa GOP State Central Committee: The candidates figured out that exposing our nut cases costs us votes. Oops.

Waiting for the blowback.

well since they don’t have tweedledee and tweedledumb on the straw poll ballot who are they gonna vote for … oh right rick perry

Not to fear GOTPpers…things will all be settled properly in “quiet rooms” where Mittens will be made the nominee. The VP will be someone most never heard of.

The second nail in Iowa’s special status in selecting our presidents.

I think the Dems ought to take it a step farther (assuming we get to an actual primary). They ought to divide the country into 5 or 10 regions, and say that in 2024 (President Clinton won’t be challenged) one will be randomly picked to hold a first round of Super Tuesday-style primaries. Randomly choose another region for 2028. Get this BS idea of Iowa, New Hampshire and those early states out of the calculus and find the candidate with the widest national support.

Hmmm…? I wonder how many other things the GOP is going to have to alter, create or get rid of on the road to 2016, in order to create the illusion that America wants ANY of these candidates, let alone will select one to be our next President?

I think this election is going to be an exciting s**t show!

New headline, “Iowa GOP kill thing only people who are freeloaders at Iowa fair want.”
