Discussion: Investigation Reveals Deadly Niger Mission Lacked Proper Approval

I call BS. This stinks of an excuse to avoid accountability.

Another example of Obama failing to support our troops…oh, wait.

Round up the usual suspects. Some Lieutenant is going to get burned.

Agreed. The report says the team were basically freelancing, so as @tao says, some low level officer is going to take the fall.

If Hillary were President, we would have a dozen “investigations” going on by now.

Trey Gowdy? Trey Gowdy? Where are you??

News flash America: The US Military has a lot of clowns in the upper ranks…religious right wing morons that because of their Evangelical beliefs rise to high ranks in our military. The US Military is NOT invincible and it is not well managed or well led. It’s become a lot worse under Trump and Pence but this has been a trend for several years now.

Stop blaming the foot soldiers for the screw ups at the top! They keep dragging us into wars that we never win…they keep hoping we forget the lessons of Vietnam…and now Iraq and Afghanistan. Military occupations and Imperialism never wins…how did the US fail to learn from the fall of the British Empire?

Oh sure…they’re protecting freedom. What a load of BS!

Calling all Benghazi patriots…let the endless hearings begin…

So is the MSM going to gin up this to “Benghazi” level?
It’s a republican administration, so no.

Followup question: were the unit commanders unaware of proper protocol for mission approval, or was this a case of the commanders believing that forgiveness would be easier to get than permission?

In other words, were these deaths the result of a culture of sloppiness or a culture of permissiveness?

Hmm. No mention of the De Vos brother’s mercenaries’ role in this.

The line “Forget it, Jake. It’s Africa.” comes to mind. Our first mistake in these foreign lands is thinking we understand what’s going on.

I spent enough time in the military to know this article is a crock of crap. If you divert from your mission you are not following orders. Sure you can blame this on some company grade officer to keep the brass in the clear but what they’re saying did NOT happen. The mission, if accomplished, would have been a feather in the hat of Trump. Instead it busted at the cost of 4 men because it was an ill thought out cowboy’esqe attempt to enhance the careers and status of higher ups who would never see a bit of the heat. The buck for this stops in the White House. That’s why they call the POTUS the Commander in Chief. No difference here than in the Yemen slaughter. Trump wanted it to show off how big his dick is and people died. What’s galling is how little pain these “support the troops” mother fuckers show when they uselessly get those troops killed.

Soldiers are men. They are not “forces”. GW Bush started that crap. Men have families and dreams. Forces don’t. Call them men, troops or soldiers.

Folks those guys were young. Their friends, the ones that had to pick up what was left of them and put it in a bag, were young too. Who knows what they were talking about that morning. I remember talking to Mike D about a 1930’s pickup he and his father had plans on restoring. As soon as he “got back to the world” he was going to spend time in the garage with his father, drink some beer and fixing that truck. That night I put his torn body in a black rubber bag to send home to his mother. That was 45 years ago and I can not get it out of my mind. Those kids that survived that slaughter in “shithole” Niger will be just like me. 45 years from now still blanking out from time to time to relive that ugly shit.

Fuck every cocksucking mother fucker that ever uttered “thank you for your service”.

Nigerghazi! Lock him up!!! This calls for 5 times the investigations we had for 9-11!!!

What’s that? A black dude who “knew what he was getting into” was killed?

Oh, well, forget it then…

Trey Gowdy just announced he’s not retiring, so he can get a quick start on the hearings…

Bigger than Benghazi, he says…

I would start the list of modern misuse of the military with Korea. It would seem every deployment since VJ day has been for the sole benefit of the military-industrial complex, to use a coinage that apparently nobody ever took seriously.

First, BENGAZI! (as an aside it is a tragedy for these soldiers and their families, much the same way Bengazi was for the State Dept, and it’s families)

Second, I am pretty sure that there is more to this story, but how does it fit in to the “leash” that has been taken off troops by this admin?

http://www.defenseone.com/ideas/2017/05/army-wants-let-troops-digital-leash-s-easier-said-done/137855/

It is shocking that the Dem’s have not gone after Trump on this, nor has there been any committee investigation by Congress, again shocking.

I think you’ve put into words what’s been bothering me for a long time. I was never in the military but have always been bothered by the mealy-mouthed people that are always thanking people for their service. And I think what you said is why it bothers me. They are so happy to send the military off when some idiot waves a flag, never thinking whether anyone really needs to go in the first place.

And yet you never hear them say anything about actually living up to the civilian end of the bargain and actually getting the VA working properly. Or using some brains in the first place by not unnecessarily creating so many wounded veterans and bereaved families.

This reads like Excuse, Military, Cheap One each.
What it covers up is far worse than the failures disclosed.
There are obviously many questions the brass hats and the ring club don’t want to address, let alone answer.
So what America ends up paying for are a row of caskets with a mil-spec broom atop each one.
Ya gotta wonder how all that worthless “Command” structure in their five-sided money pit manages to walk around their offices with everything they sweep under the rug.
