Discussion: Inside The Courtroom When Michael Cohen Was Sentenced To Prison

Mob lawyer and traitor.

In Michael Cohen’s own words, the judge and the Special Counsel’s office did “tread very f—ing lightly” I wish that what they had done to him was “…going to be fucking disgusting”.

One can feel sorry for his family but it is not a sentence where he will die in jail. Seems to me white collar crime skates in so many instances and blue collar criminals so away for life. He should count himself lucky on this one.

Agreed. This is a skate and he’ll recover just fine. Meanwhile, there are over 300 million victims of his crimes.

They should shorten his sentence by six month’s if he’d agree to listen to his own threatening phone calls on a loop night and day. I guess that would be cruel and unusual.

It’s a significant jail sentence given what the sentencing guidelines recommended less the discount for his cooperation and also given that it’s hard to prove guilt in criminal campaign finance cases as well as tax cases. Cohen has done a lot of worse stuff than this but based on the crimes for which he pleaded guilty, the sentence handed down was not light in my view. It will provide a stern message to the GOPers who also engaged in criminal campaign finance activity. The NRA is crapping in their pants right now. They’re involved in a straight up illegal foreign campaign donation scheme in which they were basically a clearinghouse for illegal foreign money and the Trump campaign coordinated with the NRA on how to deploy that money for the benefit of the Trump campaign. Those guys aren’t getting off easy. They’ll all go to jail. I also think the Trump campaign can be indicted on both this Cohen matter and the Torshin-Butina-NRA matter.

I so hope you’re right about the NRA.

The recent articles on the very blatant illegal coordination between the Trump campaign and the NRA plus the added piece of illegal Russian money making its way into the NRA coffers by way of a Russian spy and mobster duo (you really can’t make this stuff up) make this a fairly easy conspiracy to see, gather evidence for (now that Butina is talking), and prosecute. Prosecutors would salivate at the chance to tell a story like this involving espionage, foreign intrigue, the mob, sex, money, parties, power with actual evidence to show the effect of all of it. You could do a Netflix series just on the Putin-Torshin-Butina-NRA-Trump connection alone.

Nicholas Roos, of the U.S. Attorney’s office, fired back at Petrillo in his own remarks, countering that “the unfairness here is not to Mr. Cohen. It’s to the public.”

“Sez who?”

All things considered, I think the sentence is fair.

He’ll probably serve 18 months of that sentence.

Wasn’t enough. He helped screw not just our country, but the entire world.

My understanding is that there is no reduction possible.

I do too.

Max federal reduction is 15%, and he has to be a perfect prisoner to get that.

I still think 3 years is light for what he did and his minor amounts of cooperation.

The horror, the horror.

Mistah Cohen, he dead.

Well…

He will likely be disbarred.
His business-dealing days are over.
He won’t get a job on Fox, because he tattled on Trump.
He has no other visible means of supporting himself and his family.

And he’s a convicted felon.

I’ve read only possible to get 2 months per year for good behavior.

So, that leaves around 30 months he HAS to serve.

When the full story comes out, it will be as ugly as we thought. Cohen doesn’t hang his head in shame like this for only the small amount that we know.
