If she could face deportation over this in lieu of jail time, her time frame to return to Russia speeds up. This agreeing to cooperate may stretch that way out. If she is in trouble at home, this may be a way to buy time for her.

I spend the day with surgical instruments in my hand. If you look at me holding a hemostat or a retractor you’ll know I’m no newbie to the things. The same goes for firearms. You look at Butina hold weapons and you know she’s a novice. She’s awkward with them. So I don’t think she gives a shit about them either. That’s an act. Plus the notion of a gun rights org in Russia is over the top silly.

If it just about funnelling Russian money to the NRA and/or the GOP, then I’m glad she got caught. I hope she implicates a few of those assholes at minimum, but it would be nice if it turned into something more. If not, then all the coverage about her will end up being excessive and wishful thinking in retrospect.
But surely she’ll be expected by prosecutors to flip and reveal all on her handler Torshin whom Russia has already whisked out of public sight in advance of his indictment and international arrest warrant (albeit no extradition treaty) they expect will be coming his way. So do they give her a pass on Torshin and treat him like collateral damage?
I agree that it makes no sense that she’d be cooperating without Putin’s express blessing seeing as how she’ll be deported upon completing her sentencing to face her spymasters and consequences if she’s not.
I guess I’m really curious and somewhat wary on how prosecutors will play this knowing that she’s already compromised to not be forthcoming about any intel that Russia doesn’t want her to reveal. Maybe Russia won’t want her to spill enough to take down the entire NRA because they still find the organization useful. They might not get as much as they had hoped.
