Discussion for article #236342
I have to say, I find it hilarious how surprised I was to open an article about porn and immediately find myself reading about dick pics. Not that dick isn’t porn, of course, but most discussions of porn on sites like this almost exclusively talk about women and women’s parts. Nice switcheroo there.
In any event, I had never thought about Instagram as a platform for democratizing porn and allowing like minded people to connect sexually. I got no problem with it. In fact the additional connection with real people seems far healthier than the pure objectification of others that is part and parcel with traditional porn. Interesting stuff!
Ha, I think the interesting part of this is that most of the DIY porn on Instagram is dick pics, whereas a lot of the spammy, aggregated porn is women. Men really need an outlet for their dick pics, I guess! And there’s clearly an audience for it.
Apparently we all failed to understand that Anthony Weiner was on the cutting edge of a now thriving community…
It’s not only been a long war on porn, it’s been a long, hard, throbbing war on porn.
They’re just showing their shortcomings.
What the fuck did I just read?
Wow. Thank you for such a well-written, rather extensive article on the subject of dick pics on Instagram. First off, I don’t use Instagram and wasn’t totally sure what it was (that’s how old I am). Secondly, I do hope that the folks at Instagram can come to terms with reality. I wish I had had the internet and outlets such as Instagram when I was a teen dealing with my sexuality and developing my likes and so on.
Again, thanks for such a great read.
spoke with a handful of people who, in their own quiet way, are admirable examples of how to stick it to censorship and limits on sexual freedom.
“Admirable examples” of sexual freedom?
Good grief, these are the same perverts that flash their dicks in laundromats.
Jewish men are always on the cutting edge.
That was actually something we thought of early on in the conception of this piece–are these the modern-day streakers and flashers? But there’s one key difference, which is that these photos will only show up in the feeds of people who are searching the hashtags and following these accounts. The beauty is that these nudes are consensual and solicitied.
Wrong. Absolutely wrong. Instagram has a right, it is their business, to set what is acceptable. They have decided this is unacceptable.
Whatever #hashtag-saftey they may practice, those who ignore the TOS are intruding and violating the rights of those who use Instagram according to the TOS.
#Eggplant or #eggplantparmesana don’t protect people whose interest might be purely culinary. And there are a great many recipe seekers who have undoubtedly fallen victim. Years ago the child molesters used the word “chicken” or “baby chicks” in much the same way as I found out when looking for chickens for my farm. Using common code words is not security.
To me this issue is about sex and consensuality. If I go to instagram under the TOS that posting pictures of genitalia is not welcome then I have not given my consent for you to thrust your genitalia onto my screen.
No means no.
Do people really seek out recipes on Instagram? Seems strange to look for that kind of content on an image sharing service. But I guess there is probably some number of persons that are looking for pictures of eggplants…
BTW, if you are ever looking for recipes involving lemons, don’t be fooled into checking out the lemon party. I made that mistake once… but I survived.
Its the consent issue I am concerned about. If there are places that accept a certain behavior then take that behavior where it is welcome.
OK…I had to look at lemon party though I knew better.
Fair enough. I can agree with that.
It is one of those dark corners of the internet that most people visit at some point or other, usually knowing that they shouldn’t but driven by curiosity. .
Porn accidentally coming up in a search term is NOT akin to someone flashing you in the laundromat! That could happen with a simple Google image search, too.
Sure it is. You go to a site which has a TOS prohibiting the posting of porn. You and your 8-year-old daughter begin looking for pictures of eggplant parmesan - after being told by granny that yours didn’t look right. The next thing you know sausages are splashing onto your screen.
You didn’t ask for it to happen. You didn’t consent for it to happen. Someone who didn’t want to follow the rules made it happen. Worse, they made it happen here because it is fun to post nude pictures when or where you shouldn’t, just like its “fun” for some to flash someone on a street corner.
Take it where it is welcome. According to the instagram TOS this practice is not welcome and thus consent was not given. No means no. People should not be forced to see such images unless they consent…
Functionally, the way this whole thing is set up, that’s how it already works. You’re not gonna see this stuff unless you proactively search for it (or unless they collectively co-opt an ordinary word, and it doesn’t sound like that happens).
lol, loving this anxiety-ridden and prudish internet scold character! Even the name seems to fit
I’m all for a free and open internet. There is no lack of sites where people can post whatever pictures or content they choose.
Here we have something intrusive effecting a business that says they don’t want people posting porn or pictures of genitalia.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
- You may not post violent, nude, partially nude, discriminatory, unlawful, infringing, hateful, pornographic or sexually suggestive photos or other content via the Service.
So we have a site where minors 14-17 are free to use, a site where the TOS rules explicitly ban pornography and genitalia pictures. This creates a real problem if minors are here downloading dick pics and porn.
We have consent and age of consent issues here. We also have a lack of respect in disregarding instagrams policy by these trollish posters.
Its a big wide open net, go spread your legs where it is expected.
