Even without the extreme gaffe. I predict that any of these three could find a ‘Murdock’ effect in the general election due to their deep embrace of Trump - especially in the wealthy (traditional GOP) suburbs of Indianapolis (esp Hamilton County). In the last election cycle there was good polling for the Gov. race (the Pence replacement), and at least one Congressional race for the Dem candidates - until the last week+ with the “Trump Torndado”. As for the rural areas - much of those are agriculture - throw continued instability via threatened or actualized tradewars - and some more GOP support will be wobbly.
It is not a given, but it feels like there are some of the blue wave conditions of 2006 bubbling up which switched the congressional delegation from maj. repub to maj dem. That won’t happen this year (or is highly unlikely) due to extreme gerrymandering, but for the statewide Senate seat? That is another thing altogether.
Here’s to hoping this state regains some of its senses and at least goes purple again.
Indeed
The Teapartiers …supplying us with totally unelectable Republicans since 2009.
Keep up the good work fellows
Are you sure you can’t find a qualified Pedo to run?
They’re very popular you know
Scorecards! Scorecards! You can’t tell the nut-case without a scorecard!
Oh, and pass the popcorn!
Sen. Joe Donnelly was elected due to having a fortunate opponent, Richard Mourdock, who famously said in a debate with Donnelly that if a woman became pregnanat as the result of rape it was as God intended. Mourdock was a Tea Party wackadoodle. Indiana is essentially a northern province of Kentucky. Old South north of the Ohio river. The 20th Century incarnation of the KKK was centered in Indiana, and to this day I’d venture a plurality of white adults would buy a slave if only the marketplaces would reopen.
Donnelly’s election was an abberation. I expect the state to go thoroughly red on the Senate side this go round.
***In Indiana, members were American-born, white Protestants and covered a wide range of incomes and social levels. The Indiana Klan was perhaps the most powerful Ku Klux Klan in the nation. It claimed more than 30% of white male Hoosiers as members. In 1924 it supported Republican Edward Jackson in his successful campaign for governor.***

In the era of Trump I don’t think Donnelly is particularly vulnerable. The only incumbent Democratic Senate seat I’m worried about this year is New Jersey. If the Dems can’t find a viable alternative to Bob Menendez, that seat could be lost.
Indiana here. It is interesting to watch the ads for these three goofs. All of them are some version of “No I love Trump more than these other jokers.” Luke Messer runs an ad saying “I know the value of teamwork, that’s why I support Trump’s agenda (funny seeing teamwork and Trump in the same sentence).” The whole thing makes one wonder why Indiana GOPers somehow think embracing the Trump train wreck will somehow work better for them here given Dotard’s long streak of losing races for the GOP that should be easily won. Indiana went for Dotard at 57% thanks to an absent and unpopular Hillary, but it seems his lack of any values, any idea what he’s doing, a corrupt administration, and every-word-is-a-lie style will make him a huge loser in 2018 and 2020 here. Trump signs are mostly gone and you can see where they’ve been scraped off rear bumpers with regret.
In the ag sector it isn’t just trade wars – cutting the budget for SNAP (food stamps) is a big, big deal. If they f*** with SNAP (as they have promised) in the Farm Bill they could be in big trouble.
…and he does a really good job in Indiana appearing like he’s a moderate.”
Because he IS a fucking moderate, you idiot!
Then you aren’t paying attention. There are quite a few Democratic seats you should be worried about. My state’s seat down here in Florida is a big concern, as Scott is essentially neck and neck with Nelson right now (Scott is supposedly going to formally announce today). Missouri is troubling, Montana, West Virginia and yes, Indiana are all causes of worry.
We do have some potential pick ups in AZ, NV and maybe TN and TX (or at least close races in both of those), but when you look at the whole map…its not just that we have to defend more states, its that we are defending a lot of seats in traditionally red states.
Menendez isn’t going to lose, but Donnelly and McCaskill very well could - their elections in 2012 were only possible because of their opponents.
Seems like we ought to be donating to both Donnelly and Rokita.
The “him” – the guy the Koch brothers are attacking – is the guy who does not believe that God instigates rape.
Sick Republican values, but then look who’s the head of their Party.
Mr. Donnelly is a RINO. He votes against women’s reproductive rights and LGBT issues because he is catholic. I vote for him only because he is a democrat. If it had not been for the murdock “rape is a gift from god” he would never have been elected.
I have noticed that Mike Braun has taken his my head is up trump’s ass out of his latest TV adds.
Though I hate to give the nutjob clicks, everyone needs to go check-out the totally insane ad Rokita’s been running here in Indiana. It starts with black NFL players taking a knee, segues to a photoshopped image of hundreds of (implied to be veteran) tombstones, then Nancy Pelosi, then some video of cops clashing on the street with protestors. The voiceover is all "LIBERALS!!!TRAITORS!!!THEY HATE OUR TROOPS!!!UNLIMITED WELFARE!!!OMG!!!
It’s easily the most unhinged political ad I’ve seen in years.
