Don’t insult morons like that, TC…
Ask the woman? Bullshit on that! Let’s go full GOP here and adopt the “vagina probe” mentality of Cuccinelli! One of the tools all christianist bakers, florists, and videographers must have is a vagina probe and a private room that meets surgical standards and said bakers, florists, etc must have admitting privileges at local hospitals.
But actually the law says “religious” not “christian” so I want to adopt some other religious dogma, doesn’t really matter which one, and deny my awesome baking services to hetero christianists. The law is the law, after all, and the sooner we start using it against them, the more quickly this crap begins to dissipate.
From the Indianapolis Star (about an hour ago):
Gov. Mike Pence, scorched by a fast-spreading political firestorm, told The Star on Saturday that he will support the introduction of legislation to “clarify” that Indiana’s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act does not promote discrimination against gays and lesbians.
“I support religious liberty, and I support this law,” Pence said in an exclusive interview. “But we are in discussions with legislative leaders this weekend to see if there’s a way to clarify the intent of the law.”
The governor, although not ready to provide details on what the new bill will say, said he expects the legislation to be introduced into the General Assembly this coming week.
Heh, heh, heh
“Scramble To Contain Fallout”?? At least OWN IT, you f’ing bigots!!
I don’t recall Indiana businesses voting for this bill. It was passed by Mike Pence and other Republicans. Your rant is misplaced. This is one of many problems with Republican legislatures.
With that logic do you take blame for the disasterous Bush presidency? After all “you” elected him. Pretty silly reasoning. This is just one of thousands of examples why Republicans should never be allowed to govern.
Time for an old fashioned widespread boycott!
They are sad now that their bigotry is going to cost them money. The only reason. Money.
No, you don’t. You take one down hard. The rest get the message. Those that are slow to get it are next on the list.
At the behest of businesses.
“Democratic South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg touted on Twitter his city’s civil rights ordinance’s protections for gays and lesbians”
Yes, Mayor Buttigieg, but now, you see, you have a state law that trumps your city law. And don’t think you don’t have citizens there in South Bend who will take advantage of it. One reason the state law was written was to protect bigots in cities just like yours.
More like Christian schools that sprang up down South after Brown v. Board of Education.
Are you seriously going down that route? The bible is so full of truly horrific laws and moral codes that every christian must pick and choose what to throw out. All christians ignore Leviticus and most of the Old Testament quickly follows (except the bits that support their particular bigotries and prejudices). Ultra orthodox jews take the bible more seriously than any christian, and even they throw out the stoning, slavery and genocide. And of course most protestants also throw out the apocrypha, including most of the new testament.
One would think that those who accept that the fascist Da’esh is Islamic by calling them ISIS as they want to be called should likewise accept that this group of fascists are Christian as they want to be called.
Then again, I do believe that anti-gay bigotry is much more representative of the worldwide Christian population than the murderous extremists are of the worldwide Muslim population.
WHAT??? You mean to tell me that discrimination and capitalism aren’t the same thing? I can discriminate and still lose my business for doing so??? But, I thought I had the constitutional right to discriminate according to my religious freedom. There’s still “separate but equal,” after all. I thought eliminating half of my business would INCREASE my revenues! Brownback did that with taxes in Kansas, and look how well that’s worked for him! Since when do certain actions have negative consequences?
So all those great people need to get off their asses and get this law repealed. Until they do, the state law represents the state, and so the state bears the consequences with respect to interstate commerce. Those economic consequences give those great people some leverage with which to fight, and without them, it’s just bullshit on a chat board. And all those great people will continue to do business there at businesses who don’t discriminate, while the pricks will line up at Chik-Fil-A to express their solidarity with the fascists.
A corporation like Angie’s List furthermore has an obligation to evaluate the implications of this law on their potential employees, and make a judgement about whether growing their business in the state is viable. It takes a peculiarly profound dumbass to consider that to be hatred equivalent to the bigots who passed this law.
Of course you’re the smartest guy in the room so it’s everyone else who’s stupid and bigoted for expressing their outrage with their dollars the way capitalism intended. Why am I not surprised you’d draw such a ridiculous false equivalence?
Just come out and say it. You support this law, don’t you? Or is your apparent support just a symptom of some bizarre libertarian psychosis?
Apparently Gov. Pence did not know:
“He has disputed claims that the law allows state-sanctioned anti-gay discrimination, as some Indiana businesses, convention organizers and others have argued, and said that he did not anticipate “the hostility that’s been directed at our state.””
Dolt.
Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a person may not be discriminated against due to Age, Pregnancy, National Origin, Race, Ethnic Background, Religious Beliefs, or Sexual Orientation. (from attorneys.com). Businesses in various states have been sued for refusing to serve gays on that basis, and have roundly lost. But those states haven’t codified their bigotry into state law.
So Talibandiana now stands alone in that regard, and the future is murky. Political pressure must be applied now, and unless that pressure is manifest in economic pressure it matters not one whit to a fascist. We can complain to a moron like Pence all we want – the only thing that’ll get his attention is if his fat-cat donors call him up and tell him this is bad for their business. Witness the walk-back already in progress. It’s working.
EDIT: actually, upon further research, there in fact are other states that have codified it into law. Many. This begs the question: where the hell have we been? There is of course also a Federal law to this effect that was co-sponsored by Hillary Clinton and used to justify the Hobby Lobby decision, and while I’m certainly no lawyer, I have read an opinion that this Talibandiana law is much more far-reaching. So perhaps that’s the difference. In any event, there’s no time like the present.
Consistency has never been a Republican strong suit.
