Don’t hate the refuges, hate the people who made them refuges.

These are not people trying to enter the country illegally, but are asylum-seekers - an activity recognized as legal by international bodies. As such, this is probably in violation of those as well as our own laws as I understand it. I imagine the courts will eventually rule on this policy.

We have an orange Nazi in the WH, and that somehow inspired a mass migration north to our boarders? What am I missing here?

I crossed the boarder into Canada a couple of weeks ago, and I was worried they wouldn’t let me in …

Also, coming across the Tex-Mex border are refugees from African nations and an occasional Eastern European or Central Asian nation. ( I see them at our local refugee center.) If we had a real president, he or she would convene an international conference on refugees who are the victims of evil governments, climate change, and war. But, instead of someone like a 1919 version of Herbert Hoover, we have a big-mouth buffoon who understands nothing about the causes of these forced migrations.

Something fishy going on here. Did somebody sucker punch the Washington Post?

Well, at least it will be a nice distraction from the climate report, Trump sucking Saudi schlong, etc., etc, etc.

This is pretty clearly contrary to the letter of US law, but we’re getting into Andrew Jackson territory. It’s the executive breaking the law, so DoJ is effectively out of the loop, and the most the judiciary can do is order the executive to follow the law eventually-ish.

My guess is that the mexican government has agreed to, you know, not actually deport, imprison or kill people waiting to make applications for asylum.

But for it to be a deal Mexico has to get something out of this, so what did Trump promise them, and how much will it cost us?

No surprise at this, but the real issue is when is Mexico going to pay for the Wall as Trump promised. s/

Good question. Typically they wouldn’t write it without a couple of sources in a position to know confirming it. It might be just as possible there was genuine confusion—this is certainly the most confused and dysfunctional White House in history.

Yet another government learns the pitfalls of negotiating with fundamentaly dishonest White House. You can believe nothing they say and you cannot trust them to honor any agreements. This is how Trump has conducted business his whole life.

Trump hates anyone and everyone from south of the border.
That is the truth.
Otherwise he would not act as he does.

The Washington Post had a few good suggestions on addressing the root causes of their wanting to flee their homeland:

I hope someone stays on this story until names are named and the reasons for the support of What’s Her Name are clearly stated. It’s probably normal for Giant’s owner Charlie Johnson and his wife to be bigots and support bigots–that’ what rich plutocrats do. But MLB? Ernst and Young? Let’s not allow either one of these institutions to cover this up with layers of corporate bullshit. Let someone get to WHO and WHY before the story goes away.

Preisdent Obrador doesn’t even take office as president of Mexico until next Saturday, December 1, 2018.
So who did Fluff the MAGA Coiffure call on to reach this Toadily Fake Deal with Mexico?
Cuz Obrador is saying it sure wasn’t with him.

Don’t tell me Toad’s Mocking American Gullibles … AGAIN!

They come here because we require them to come here to ask for asylum. The US prohibits applications from embassies and requires a claim at u.s. point of entry. They are doing what we require of them. That gets omitted from many stories.

FYI. Immigration is at historic lows. So Trump admin has created a ckusterfuck on purpose or by incompetence and ill will. Probably all

For sure. I am a Post subscriber, and I am PO’d about this. The “deal” was a top of page story this morning at WaPo, with the usual thousands of comments. Tonight, I heard the correction from other sources, and had to ‘search’ WaPo to find the “no deal” AP article, with a total of 5 comments, which shows how WaPO buried the correction.

Baddd, bad, dog, WaPo! And WTF? too.

(Agree @williamv I thought the original unsubstantiated article was BS, designed by Trump to deflect from the killer climate report)
