Cults follow their leader into the void. Jim Jones, Manson, Marshall Applewhite-Heaven’s Gate, David Koresh-Branch Davidians, Hitler, etc. Failing any connection to reality or reason, bereft of independent thought, cults cling to their leader despite facts and events that lead others to wonder “WTF would it take for these people to abandon this loon!?”

Even Republicans are mortified by his decision to abruptly leave Syria without any consultations whatsoever. A decision like this could tip the balance just a bit towards conviction, so he ought to be careful.

Unlike The Orange Gasbag, I cannot speak for the fallen, but one could posit that those who serve and served in Syria would not want their sacrifice to be in vain with a unilateral retreat. By most accounts, up to 30K ISIS still in country. It is not a conventional war; it is a long-term terrorist operation in concert with our Kurdish allies and others, and ISIS will rebound in the vacuum. The Gasbag sent more soldiers to Texas for a political stunt than are in Syria.
Who wins by a retreat?
ISIS and other terrorists
Russia
Syria (Assad)
Iran
Turkey (Erdogan)
Who loses by withdrawal?
Kurds (SDF and YGP, etc.)
Other US allies
Syrian civilians (war casualties, refugees, and ISIS executions)
Global civilians (future ISIS terrorist attacks)

The cynic in me thinks Trump would love an ISIS return to power so he had a clear enemy to scare and rally people with and attack daily. Pulling out now would be a first step there.
This was on fresh air yesterday. Everyone in Syria thinks ISIS will be back.
