Discussion: In The White House's Backyard, The Shutdown Hits Hard

President is Russian agent bent on destabilizing the United States and NATO, and he is packing the courts with ultra right-wing white male justices. Our parks are being trashed, people canā€™t buy food, and Airport Security is faling.

Nothing anyone can do.

No democracy, no justice.

We have paid for these services, and the President is refusing to provide them. Weā€™re still paying, although we arenā€™t getting the services. Itā€™s a variation on his usual MO, which is to get the services and not pay for them.

Itā€™s the Republican ā€œGovernment is brokenā€ way.

And McConnell keeps fiddling.

The Press is not pressing McConnell enough.
This is now the McConnell shut down.

I can only hope that if any of these Rethugs dare to be out in public in DC that citizens will confront them. Theyā€™re all probably having tRump order those fabulous McDā€™s burgers in so they wonā€™t have to face people in restaurants. This is totally disgraceful.

The traffic on my 10-mile daily commute is nearly non-existent. In the summer, traffic is always lighter as people rotate in and out on their vacations. This is far lighter than summertime traffic. Itā€™s not quite like a ghost town, but itā€™s certainly not right. Mind you, I love getting to and from work so easily, but I know itā€™s not normal, and that bothers me. It means there are a lot of people around here who have nowhere to go in the morning, and itā€™s been that way for far too long. This really needs to end soon.

All those government jobs and then all the private jobs that serve and depend on those government workers. This is really going to fuck over a lot of folks and businesses.

Resiliency in the face of stupidity, I mean ADVERSITY, of course I meant adversity! :flushed:

In the same way as Lawrence talks about ā€˜Stupid Watergateā€™ this seems to be the ā€™ Stupid Shutdownā€™. And Iā€™ll say it again:

They had two years of unified government to build a wall!
WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY WAITING FOR?!?!?!

If McConnell received enough pressure, he would hold a vote in 5 minutes.

What pressure would McConnell respond to?

I mentioned on another thread that Rachel Maddow had on her show last night a prominent DOJer who pretty much told us that Drumpf is an existential threat.

As it is now, all people who either enable Drumpf or look the other way are complicit in his Treason.

Seriously

So what is Speaker Pelosi waiting for?

What exactly are you expecting her to do?

The House already passed several bills to re-open the government in total, to re-open affected agencies piecemeal, and a CR that passed the senate just before this all beganā€¦ all to be stonewalled by McConnell and Trumpā€¦

So I ask again

What do you want Pelosi and the House to do exactly? A futile and ultimately symbolic move to impeach? Firey but useless speeches to the choir? What do you think she can do unilaterally that hasnā€™t already been done or isnā€™t ultimately useless political theater that may have more costs than benefits?

Move to start impeachment hearings in the Judiciary Committee.

You donā€™t know that impeachment would be ā€œfutile and ultimately symbolic.ā€ We gotta at least try to get Trump out of office.

Or are we all just giving up?

McConnell wonā€™t even bring a CR, that passed the Senate unanimously about three weeks ago, up for a voteā€¦ but sureā€¦ heā€™ll vote to convict and remove Trump.

Without the votes in the senate a move to impeach in the house is futile, symbolic, and far more costly in political capital than it is beneficial.

This is not an opinion, it is a fact

A better moment.

Check out the dumpster behind the White House. I hear there is a ton of uneaten fast food out back. Seems the shutdown has left all that food for the vermin.

If the House votes to impeach, the Senate MUST hold a trial. This is not an opinion, it is a fact.

This just shows what a joke the Constitution is. The President is a Russian agent, and is destabilizing the United States and NATO. There will be never better moment than now.

Impeach him and hold the trial.

They will hold a trial, and then vote to acquitā€¦

Nothing will be achieved except the same embarrassment the Republicans endured with Bill Clinton. If we can not be assured of a vote to remove in the Senate, then impeaching him in the House is futile and symbolic

Wonā€™t be that long now ā€¦

weā€™ll come get whatā€™s inside ā€”
