Discussion: In Scathing Op-Ed, Vermont Newspaper Begs Sanders Not To Run

Ouch

The only people who think that Bernie is a presidential material are his cultist followers and Bernie himself.

A lot of the comments after the full article were supportive of Sanders and thought the newspaper way off base.
We do not need someone that will split the Dem. vote, really hope he won’t run.

Now that’s a REAL feel the burn moment.

Good. It needs to be said. And there are others whose visions of grandeur should be reined in too. The Democrats must find a smart, principled, experienced, charismatic, person, probably male at this point, who can lead and unite. Someone not too smug and who has actually accomplished things beyond positioning him or herself for the next run for higher office. I’m tired of electoral politics grounded in polling. I want facts and proposals and plans and aspirations. I even want to be a little bit inspired and hopeful,
Sigh.

Is Sanders a Democrat now? I thought he ran as an Independent.

When it’s the senate he’s independent.

I dont think his message is stale at all. In fact, his message has finally got some traction, but I agree that someone else needs to take the mantle in 2020

Warren 2020

Good. He should hang up his hat and stay in Vermont.

Bernie is every bit the sold-out capitalist that is destroying our country. He supports the F-35 pos because it is made in Vermont. This is how the congress and pentagon, by their extreme sold-out corruption, has destroyed the USA’s military readiness and weaponry and the collapse of the USA into only a war machine. Bernie is as responsible for this as any of those in congress and administration. Read “Twilight’s Last Gleaming” to understand how Bernie and his fellow corrupt accomplices made war unwinnable against either China and Russia, both of whom have beaten the USA MIC in the arms race.

Bernie’s supporters think everyone is way off base except for Bernie.

The paper endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016.

No one should be surprised by Saturday’s editorial.

Is the Barre Montpelier Times Argus a major metropolitan newspaper? I don’t think so.

(I agree with their points, but the fact that a small paper makes the arguments does not give them much more force.)

When he needs $ he’s a Democrat. He’s a grifter.

I know Bernie bashing is a popular sport here, but what indications are there that he’ll run this time? Last time he got into the race late because he thought there were important issues not being discuss. He turned out to be right about that as the things he discuss, like Medicare for all and populist economics, are now in the mainstream. (See OAC) If by stale they mean mainstreamed I guess I’d agree.

As its is Elizabeth Warren is the only candidate we know is running, so at this point do we discourage everyone else from running so as not to split the party? Is that what we call a robust primary season: “A candidate has declared, everyone else Back the fuck off”, seriously is that how fragile our party is?

But…but…a bird landed on his podium! He’s got nature’s endorsement.

Do you think we should only listen to the opinions of Major metropolitan newspapers??

I’m tired of the Bernouts, too. Many are just plain dogmatic, self-righteous, arrogant, ignorant of history, and shameless. They accept no blame for their complicity in electing Trump and are pompously dismissive of the 4 million more voters who preferred Sanders’ opponent to him.

Sanders became a caricature in 2016. He shouted rousing stump speeches but was embarrassingly inarticulate when enunciating the details of his grand imaginings. His interview with the NY Daily News during the New York primary revealed his inability to provide substance to his oft-shouted policy declarations.

Sanders prolonged petulance upon losing the nomination gave rise to the #NeverHillary cabal. His listless and perfunctory campaigning for the nominee helped to depress the vote of those typically predisposed to voting Democratic. The Nina Turners and Susan Sarandons of this sort served as emissaries for that message. And the misogyny of the Bernie Bros needed no further motivation to perpetuate the demonization of HRC that the right-wing had begun decades before. Others were seen as fertile ground for the ratfucking of the Republican/Russian chicanery.

He needs to go away and write his memoirs. He’s done enough damage.

Anyone who makes their voting decisions based on Newspaper editorials or endorsements at this point in our history has serious issues as it is.
