Says Chairman Nadler:

It should not be subject to negotiation. Comply or start seeing people jailed and/or fined.

Oh gosh, I sure hope someone here can explain to little ole me why this is all a disaster, horrible strategy, a huge corporatism-driven mistake and proof of failure that requires us to vote for some far left neophyte candidate in 2020, especially since Nadler hasn’t answered yet.

Barr just blinked and Nadler is winning the game of chicken. He can meet with them and still issue the subpoena and/or contempt. The two are not mutually exclusive. Moreover, doing so provides him the leverage to negotiate. If they waste his fucking time at the negotiation, then it just adds to the evidence that enforcement of the subpoena is necessary.

Sure it should. These things always are. If the branches are co-equal then it behooves them to accommodate each other with respect to legitimate legal and constitutional concerns that fall under their respective purviews. If this is just an attempt at bullshit, then so be it. It only adds to the evidence of bad faith and supports that a subpoena should be enforced.

Negotiate about what? If it’s anything other than whether dis-Barr will voluntarily turn himself in or be arrested when the subpoena is enforced, Nadler should tell them to FO&D. There is nothing to negotiate.

It’s not like Goopers ever didn’t want to talk about it …

I, for one, am tired of all the winning.

Pro-tip to Nadler: IF you go (and you really shouldn’t), bring witnesses and take notes. A bodyguard might be a good idea, too.

Anyone else notice the proposed time for this negotiation is for after the committee is scheduled to vote on contempt? In other words, they’re stalling. My humble suggestions - Home Dems should insure that news crews catch video of the House Sgt at Arms going in to a meeting with Pelosi and Nadler. And someone leak about the House contracting with the DC government for cell space in the local jails. Barr really needs to seriously consider how willing he is to go to jail for our mad king.

Stall tactic? I have a feeling someone is going to pull out a home movie from their boyhood trip to Michigan just to extend the meeting.

I would send my people to talk, but I would proceed with the contempt motion in the meantime. Congress can do more than one thing at a time. Remember Trump has broken more promises than he has kept by a wide margin.

This is not like one of Whiny’s six bankruptcies. There is nothing to negotiate here.

This was attached to the letter.

Sorry, maybe you’ve heard this one before, but we don’t negotiate with terrorists.

Absolutely, positively agree 100%.

Problem is, we Dems seem to LOVE to capitulate when someone offers us a chance. We’ll go to the negotiations and give away the store because Barr was “negotiating in good faith”. We’ll be lucky to walk away with a copy of the fully redacted report and a promise not to talk to Mueller until 10 years after he’s dead. Hell, we’ll probably agree to a two-year “do over” for Hair Furor.

Nadler should agree - but to an earlier time on Wednesday. Just for the principle.

Yep, it’s clearly an attempt to delay the vote. Barr won’t relent on giving the House a completely unredacted report, so this is all just maneuvering bullshit from both sides before the legal challenges begin in the courts.

Nadler has bent over backwards far enough to demonstrate a “reasonable” request, so I’m hoping he doesn’t drag this out any longer. There is a difference between preparing a solid court case, and getting played by the other side.

This could only be worse if Nadler agrees. Course he COULD go to the meeting, sit in silence and then tell the press later . “I just wanted to hear what arrogant bullshit the Attorney General would come up with as a reason for not obeying the law.”
