Discussion: In Rare Pause Of Feud, Trump Called Nadler When He Was Hospitalized In May

Being kind I would say, well, there does seem to be a shred of decency in Spankee.

Being realistic, he was probably calling to see if Nadler was sick enough to throw in the towel, as Spankee views him as a terrier nipping at his heels. Since he cannot fire him, Spankee can only hope that health issues sideline Nadler.

Well, I suspect Trump in private might not be as hostile as he seems on TV. He’s an acting president appealing to his deplorable base.

It wasn’t out of kindness. Trump was wondering if the attempted poisoning of Nadler by russkie agents had worked, and he was too impatient to wait for news.

Generally, I think that even pols I normally disagree with should be given credit for acting in a decent or considerate manner. However, Mr. Trump is different. He crossed over the line where one no longer deserves any positive evaluation for doing the right thing long ago. He simply had: and blew, too many chances to be a decent human being. Now he is simply a malignant force and his every act must be viewed with suspicion.

Yes, this is Dr. John Barron calling. Please quadruple the dosages for Mr. Adler. STAT!

Barron? Huh… I thought that looked just like David Dennison.

Without getting carried away—this didn’t involve a whole lot of sacrifice, planning, or discipline—he gets a crumb of credit for picking up the phone and making the gesture. But you have to remind yourself he’s a textbook and extremely severe malignant narcissist. Truly caring about others is nearly impossible for him. he lives to cause pain, to dominate, to humiliate. I’ve had horrible people in my own personal life do the occasional normal-human thing and you want to remember that’s not the core of their personality, there’s not a nice person in there trying to tunnel out. They are who they are, and if you forget it they’ll remind you before much time passes at all.

Trump hopes that by feigning concern for his health, Nadler will be moved to “let this go.” It couldn’t be more transparent.

I know that Lawrence O’Donnell praised the orange when he sent him (or called him) to wish him well after his automobile accident. I suppose credit is due in this case.

Years ago I used to tell my young kids that even jerks were nice 90% of the time, and that core decency had to do with how each of us handles that last 10% when life applies difficult pressures we all have to deal with. Since then Trump has blown away my 90% theory with his pathologically abhorrent behavior, but he still may have 1% of relative decency in him.

But more likely, he had some self-interest in calling Nadler, and that’s why he did so.

Dump does a good impression of a human being.

Absolutely!! Nadler passes out for unknown reasons and two and half weeks later lets Barr off the hook on criminal contempt. (For a bunch of documents that won’t move public opinion in the way that taking bold action against the attorney generalisimo would)

“Oh the humanity!!!”

By many accounts he is very likable in person, and he wants to be liked. Whatever is the mood of the moment he is great at reading it and responding to it. He constantly watches Fox because he likes what they say about him–truth be damned by both.
