Discussion: In Last Ditch Effort, Democrats Take Over Senate Floor To Protest Betsy DeVos

No. He wouldn’t start a war with a nuclear power trying to show how tough he is. This is a thing that matters.

Harry did the right thing or we would never have had a single cabinet appointment the last 2 years of Obama’s administration.

Looking for the third defector.

Ben Sasse (R - NE) has been getting a fair amount of press for being an outspoken critic of the organism in the White House. Ben Sasse holds a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard, a Master’s from St. John’s College, and a Ph.D. and a couple of master’s from Yale. Ben Sasse was the former president of Midland University. Ben Sasse supports DeVos.

If a senator with Sasse’s paper credentials on education and open disdain for the resident still puts party loyalty uber alles and votes to confirm DeVos there is not much point in hoping for her defeat.

I can’t go rouge - it washes out my skin tone. A nice chartreuse, though…

Do what you can as they say

Republicans, education and outright stupidity!

Last ditch effort, did you say?
Swagbucks.com and Instagc.com are sites where users can, in exchange for a few cents, complete small tasks such as filling out forms or surveys and—as of yesterday—begging the Senate to confirm Betsy DeVos, Donald Trump’s education secretary nominee. Someone is paying these sites to pay people to go to SupportDeVos.com, a website run by the formerly DeVos-led American Federation for Children, to express their support for her nomination.

Collins and Murkowski are from moderate districts.

The Democrats play this game also. They let certain members from red states vote against progressive bills if they have enough votes to pass the bills without them. Rest assured, DeVos will be confirmed.

Point acknowledged, but I can’t resist, so forgive me: If you’re interested in “going rouge,” you might want to look into Ivanka’s makeup line.

That way Trump really could stick it to that loser William Henry Harrison.

Take that Tippecanoe!

The only differnce between Pence and Trump is the book they base their actions on;
Trump is “Mein Kampf”
Pence is “The Handmaidens Tale”
You would only be trading a Fascist state for a Theocracy.

Is that the latter is more likely than the former to start a nuclear war over nothing. I probably should have mentioned that. If there were no such things as nuclear weapons I would be a bit more receptive to this Pence-is-worse reasoning. But alas, there are nuclear weapons. So Pence is not worse. He’s much, much better.

I’m going out on a limb here and say they wouldn’t have nuked the filibuster over DeVos. Lamar Alexander pretty much has had to drag her over the finish line, seemingly against her will. They can’t get enough votes to prevent a tie and there’s a possibility of peeling off another republican, especially one in a rural state.

Sadly, they’re succeeding.

Corrected.

I still think it’s worth getting rid of the filibuster. DeVos will be a disaster but she’ll be the Republican’s disaster.

There are many more, and more effective, guards against Pence turning the US into a theocracy than against Trump destroying the US internationally and starting wars. I’d take my chances with Pence.

Senators represent states, not districts. Are you saying that Alaska is “moderate”?

There is no foundation for making such a claim.

Its a logical evolution. There is no point being nice when the other side does nothing but flaunt the rules and makes its own as it goes along. You have to play offense and finish them or as its happening now, people will rise and put radicals (deserving) incharge. This is the basic definition of Democracy.
