I agree with him. The current policy is sort of wink, wink, nod, nod. It is really illegal in every state at the Federal level but as a practical matter it is only enforced in states that continue to prohibit the drug. It is time to remove cannabis from the prohibited list and regulate it.
There’s a lotta money to be made at the federal level. Could in time even pay for that stupid tax cut.
Canada legalized cannabis nationally as of last month, and so far it has proven quite benign. Arrests of people driving while high etc. have not increased. Obviously it’s early, but what’s happening a little bit to the North is clearly a good experiment for the US. For me personally legalization is not a hot button issue either way – not one of my top ten-thousand priorities – but I’m still very interested in how this has been playing out. Any harm done to criminal cartels will be especially noteworthy, so here’s hoping…
People who invested early in commercial pot companies – anticipating huge growth in the industry, no pun intended – have lost some money, however. That was clearly a pricing bubble.
edited to add: … and the tax revenue won’t hurt. Too early to tell exactly how much it will come to, however. The market has not yet stabilized
Whole I agree w/ Mr Tosh’s sentiment, I believe the claims regarding tuberculosis are exaggerated 
Sure doesn’t cause tuberculosis and may actually help ease symptoms. I know for a fact CBD (non-THC component of cannabis) eases chronic pain. Even in dogs. A friend has a 17 yr old samoyed mix dog who was displaying arthritis symptoms. He treated his dog with CBD and the change has been dramatic
Especially since enforcement has not been equal. White kid from the burbs gets a slap on the wrist, black kid from the city goes to jail. It’s been a preferred go-to tactic for illegal searches for decades… “I smell marijuana. You boys step out the car”.
Once again, the politicians are 10 years behind public sentiment.

That is exactly why I think there could be bipartisan support for this - there is so much money to be made.

Butler County, Ohio…where Boehner is from could easily be a center for cannabis cultivation. I know from my younger years that it already grows wild there (I grew up about 5 miles from Boehner’s home town of Hamilton, OH). It’s an easy crop to grow.

I’m probably on the outside in this logic, but agricultural hemp seems like the real money maker. Why the fuck not grow the shit for ropes, and clothing fibers, and oils, and all kinds of other shit? Can’t make money selling soy beans to China? OK. Grow hemp instead. My house has hemp chords attached to the weights in all of my windows. My house is almost 100 years old, and every single chord looks brand new. In contrast, simple UV sunlight breaks down the composition of nylon chords inside 10 years. There is no comparison.
It is one but can we focus on the main thing here - I’m not into rope.

Agree, national uniformity would be great. However, regulation can be problematic. Big money, from beverages to pharma, are already invested and ready to pounce. Monied institutions are usually are able to control regulatory guidelines and enforcement to freeze out any lower level competition. Foods are an example where regulatory perimeters have been manipulated to render organic, natural, and such term unreliable and meaningless.
