Discussion: In Change Of Tune, Mattis Now Labeling Border Mission 'Very Good Training'

“We don’t do stunts in this department.”
— Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, telling Part 1 of a lie he’ll endeavor to flesh out later, Oct. 31, 2018

Jim Mattis defended the use of active duty troops on the U.S.-Mexican border, saying that in some ways it provides good training for war.
Considering who the President is, he’s probably right.

“The eyes of the world right now — certainly all of the Americans — are on you,” Mattis told the soldiers…

Yes, sort of similar to how the eyes of parents and teachers focus on that bully in the playground, picking on the weak, sick kid that's an easy mark for the stupid little insecure tyrant that's abusing him.

Very good training for military when your targets are poor, fleeing immigrants, mostly women and children, not armed that have just walked at least 1500 miles to try to be in a safe place.
Can you explain exactly how this is good training for the Bully Nation?

This is just a distraction from what Trump is doing, and has been doing,to our country.
Protecting our border from unarmed people with our military while allowing Putin in unopposed.

We’ll get to the nuns and priests eventually.

Good logistics training for war. Lipstick on a pig. Typical of some lickspittle officer somewhere looking to pad his FitRep for his next promotion. smh

Mattis… I lose respect more and more each time his name appears in the headlines. Another reputation ruined.

Training… $215 million dollars of training and no long term goal for a stunt by a demented liar , baby, imbecile based on His fear and perverted cuck fakenews…

Gawd damn this is dangerous.

Pretty sure “good training” is a longtime military joke to describe a useless, make-work assignment. Also reasonably willing to see Mattis as a quite possibly a guy sacrificing his own dignity to help his troops and country where he can.

Mattis:

The longer-term objective, he said, is “somewhat to be determined

"$215 million dollars of training and no long term goal for a stunt "

…but I thought it was ENTITLEMENTS that were cranking up our deficits and spending!?!

That’s my take on it. I think Mattis is one of the last with a sense of duty. He’s already the de facto Secretary of State.

We don’t know and maybe, probably, never will. But it fits the facts. A thoughtful person, and he appears to be that, might well see sacrificing his own dignity as worth it, like any other sacrifice a soldier might make. Maybe even just as noble, and sadder, because nobody will play “Taps” over it. Sometimes making noble speeches and walking away with your head high is not actually the noblest thing you can do. Looking at you, Frank Capra.

Trump would fire him in a minute if he could figure out a way to get Don Jr through the Senate confirmation process.

Can that descriptive be reconciled with someone agreeing to work for Donald Trump?

“One soldier asked Mattis what are the short- and long-term plans for the military mission.” In other words, WTF are we supposed to be doing here?

Oh, well. One of the only Trump appointments I had thought wasn’t the complete opposite of what you’d want. Looks like someone wants to keep his gig for a while longer…
