Why, oh why, do people not heed warnings? During fires in California, during predicted mudslides, etc., there are always those who want to protect their property. Harry Truman in Washington refused to leave when Mt. St. Helen erupted died, must have been buried in ash. Human behavior is not always rational.

I think it depends on the situation. I’m in Myrtle Beach about a mile from the ocean and in a mandatory evacuation zone. They evacuated 167 miles of coastline. I’ve been through at least 10 hurricanes in this house. My parents went through Hurricane Hugo with no damage to their house in the same neighborhood. Saying all that, I kept a very close eye on the weather and was ready to bug out.

The people close to the rising rivers. Those are going to flood and they should get out of Dodge.

This headline should be more like “In Carolinas, people who didn’t effing listen endanger themselves and a lot of first responders who could be doing useful work instead.”

And if there is a G*d, she’s saying “I sent you a %$#@$^%$# team of trained people with a truck.”

Yeah I think a lot of it is people feel like if previous storms didn’t do anything this one probably won’t either. You just never can tell, their predictions are only so accurate, and they error on the side of caution.

well, you just can’t cure stupid;its all ‘fake news’ anyway until the water is coming in the windows…and you can’t pray away the high water…I see no good reason for first responders to risk their lives for these people…I’ve been thro’ many hurricanes and tropical storms…i’ll be damned if I want to die in one.

Houston here. Remember that time we all almost drowned when the hurricane was gone but the rain wasn’t? Surely you guys saw it on tv in the Carolinas? Take it from me: you need to get out now.
