Files on sexual assault and abuse, the appraiser wrote, do “not document actions of Federal officials,” a key condition of records worth preserving, from NARA’s standpoint.

So if ICE isn’t part of the Federal government, what is it?

Right. I’m not a fan of ICE, but what are the requirements for federal penitentiaries or other federal facilities that house people?

If ICE is finding it incredibly burdensome to retain these records, that tells me that they’ve got a larger problem than they want to admit. Just how many deaths and sexual assaults are we talking about, here? How voluminous are these records?

Bingo!

Wtf? This doesn’t make sense. You can save the records. Something is off.
