It’s a pretty fricking sad day when dealing in cocaine results in legal troubles. What is this nation coming to?
We treat our combat veterans so well. That’s why there are so many of them sleeping in the streets.
“Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials deported an army veteran who had served two tours of duty in Afghanistan on Friday…”
Pop Quiz Time:
Which of the following best describes the GOP base and Trump Administration attitude toward veterans?
- “We Support our military!”
- “Thank you for your service!”
- “Get the hell out, beaner!”
Remember to show your work.
“Thank you for your service. Now get get.” Boy do we honor our vets or what?
I’d prefer that an agency deport draft dodgers with bone spurs and guys who joined the National Guard explicitly so they “would not die in some Vietnam rice paddy”
We need courageous people like Miguel Perez Jr. in America. Not cowards, liars and men of low courage.
So this is a story with many layers of misery and sadness:
- Serving time in the Afghani quagmire
- Coming home with PTSD and not getting treatment
- Being deported after points 1 and 2.
Makes ya proud to be an American…huh?
Drump hires only the brightest and the best, and then only if they agree with his few remaining brain cells.
And…a question. Aren’t there a lot of “dreamers” serving in our armed forces now? What do stories like this do to their morale?
I’m missing how your comment is funny. Or are you saying this guy who put his life on the line for you and me, and then had a substance abuse problem as a result of said putting-his-life-on-the-line, should absolutely be deported because of his substance abuse problem? Might I suggest a touch of compassion, and maybe even nip of understanding.
Sorry, military service is an occupational choice, I see no reason to clap at a soldier at the airport and I certainly not see a reason to give them a pass for other crimes.
I thought service gave the soldier citizenship?
I’d prefer no one volunteer, forcing them to reinstitute the draft. Then I’d prefer everyone drafted refuse to respond to their draft notice. Goddamn warmongers want to wage wars all over the globe and never actually declare a fucking war. Fuck them.
It’s coming to the point where it doesn’t even have the basic decency to put someone who bravely (one assumes) served his (yes, his) country, and then (for whatever reason) made some very poor decisions through its own prison system, but instead dumps him over the border like so much unwanted garbage.
There’s a lot about this story that we don’t know. But at a first glance, this is the sort of thing that the word “shabby” was invented for.
Thanks for asking.
Why does Donald Trump hate our soldiers?
A substance abuse problem is when you abuse a substance. He had a drug dealing problem. See, that’s when you buy drugs and resell them to others. I fail to see them as analogous.
Makes. Me. Sick.
I’m sure Miguel Perez Jr. is not the first nor the last to be kicked out by tRump’s ICE Gestapo…a thoroughly corrupt, rogue and corrosive agency.
If I am being honest with myself, I think I would not have expressed a great deal of outrage if the Obama administration had taken this action. A little outrage, maybe an outragelet.
So the question is, is it hypocritical for me to be especially outraged now, when Trump acts in palpably bad faith on immigration issues but ultimately takes an action that I would have considered relatively justifiable in a different era?
I’m not sure what the answer is to that question.
One would think that permanent residents would get their citizenship at the first possible opportunity. This guy didn’t. If he had PTSD he should have been treated, and put in drug diversion court if they had one. Memo to green carders, get yo
ur citizenship ASAP
Yup. Send hundreds of thousands over to potentially die, see their buddies get killed by IEDs and finally come home to PTSD and then leave them to the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” philosophy of the dipshits who put them there and keep them there (including Obama!).
