Enough saidā¦moving on.
Itās simpler than that. She was born in the US. Sheās been a citizen her whole life. Done. There is no put up or shut up. There is just shut up.
I find Chris Cuomo annoying, but this seems like a legitimate apology.
Iām beginning to think Harris can go all the way. She was brilliant on RMS last night. There is a hidden plus with her Indian mother, and connections with India generally.
I believe it is legitimate. I think heās annoying too (he has that āsalesman vibeā about him sometimes), but for some reason I like him - maybe itās his relationship/friendship with Don Lemon. I donāt know, but I do like watching his show.
Agree - The lingering problem for Chris Cuomo is reversing back to ābothsideismā
ā¦good democratic pedigree, except heās falling victim to mediaās messianic complex, the idiotic specialty of Chuck Todd. ![]()
Gosh, itās like Chris still doesnāt get it.
Hereās an idea, Chris. When a rightwing troll spouts something clearly wrong, donāt fucking amplify it by āaddressingā it, in any way. Donāt give it oxygen.
And just who was responsible for Obama eventually having to prove he was born in the US?
Hmmmmmm. Itās a mystery. Could it have been the non-stop coverage every birther got when it was raised???
Exactly. We might as well debate the factual merits of the blood libel.
Fair enough. I think 5 minutes was just about enough time for this to be the top story. Change it.
Whereās the part where the media starts screening based on the source of the material?
Like the part where someone who is an out and out liar (Jacob Wohl) says something and it does not get picked up and broadcast as ANYTHING?
Ok⦠that said, I generally really appreciate what he said.
Cuomo should read Farhad Manjooās column in todayās NYT, titled āNever Tweet.ā Excellent advice, imho.
Just speak to the truth, Chrisā¦and not to the phony promise of āratingsā and āeffectā.
I think youāre being unfair. First, he should address a mistake. Thatās what grow-ups do and I think he did it well. Second, thereās no mystery. His entire point was exactly what you said: the MSM shouldnāt give this shit oxygen, but should instead challenge the accusers to put up proof and then not cover them. He was admitting that his attempt to do that failed.
Good to see one of these reflexive āboth-sidersā get burned by it. Maybe others will take the lesson and be more circumspect before they give credence to right-wing trolls.
Yesā¦Harris should not have to āproveā someones bigoted BS is even relevant. Period.
It seems like a decent apology, which is a good start. Iām still not sure he quite gets that bringing attention to these issues of any kind is playing into the right wing outrage machineās hands.
The media still is stuck in this mode of jumping at any rumour that creates an adversarial situation, no matter how many times they get burned, or how poor the sourceās track record is. Anything that suggests the current narrative may be wrong, giving them the excuse to ādebateā it. We see it both with negative stories on candidates having a good run, and positive stories about Trump. They hate reporting the same story over and over again, no matter how true it might be.
This trivializes the entire process, which is exactly what the right-wing wants.
Weāre asked to pay far too much attention to guys like this who in another time and place would be known only as the son and brother of NY state governors.
I have to strongly disagree. The tweet said, "The longer there is no proof either way, the deeper the effect.ā This clearly gives oxygen to the troll message by claiming that thereās no proof the accusation is false, when it is false on its face.
The question is, why is anyone giving Wohlās bullshit a minuteās time anywhere? Including here?
