I don’t know, where in the hell would they put a team in Mississippi?Jackson is the largest city with 165,000.I can think of about a dozen southern cities that would make more sense.

They might have glimpsed at a map and asked “what state is partway between Texas and Florida?” A location within driving distance from New Orleans, Memphis, etc.
