Discussion for article #240269
As far as Huckabee is concerned- religious freedom only applies to White Evangelical Christians.
of course he won’t. Because the real game here is special rights for people who think and believe like Mike Huckabee. 21st century Jim Crow.

I believe everyone should bathe their feet a lot more often than they do.
It brings me great comfort and joy to see Huckabee going down so miserably this time around.
What a lying POS. Extraordinary accommodations were made for Kim Davis but she decided to try for the “Fox Celebrity/Go Fund Me Recipient” Path and refused them all.
The flight attendant was not picking and choosing which customers to serve and which ones to deny based on her religious views. She was refusing all customers. Therefore she was not discriminating. Davis was discriminating. The two cases are not an appropriate comparison.
The case of the flight attendant is a “can the worker do the job” issue.
Kim Davis is violating people’s civil rights.
Exactly. Davis was violating the Law as well. She clearly broke the Law.
The Flight Attendant needs to either find a new job, or serve the alcohol. I am curious, doesn’t that airline also serve bacon, ham, etc. Does she serve those things? Can a Christian Flight Attendant refuse to serve meat meals to passengers during Lent?
If your religion interferes with your job duties, it’s time to find a new job, or understand that you have no right to impose your religion on others. That goes for Kim Davis and the Flight Attendant, though indeed these are different cases.
…but in this case there was no attempt to make an accommodation to Kim Davis.
BS. All she has to do is let her employees issue licenses and use a rubber stamp to put the County Clerk’s name on them. Ms. Davis doesn’t need to have any contact with those icky queers.
Well, NAL but I think you could say she was discriminating against people who felt like having an alcoholic drink on the flight. I think the bigger problem is this whole uproar is muddying the water and making people think they can do or not do anything they feel like if the practice is religiously based. Her religion says she can’t drink. If it says I, as a non-adherent, can’t drink either, then her religion can bite me. That’s not how this society works.
Could the Orthodox Jew airline crew member refuse to go to work beginning Friday night through Saturday? Hucksterbee doesn’t want to open up this hornet’s nest.
And, of course, none of that is even remotely analogous to the situation presented by Kim Davis’ refusal to do her official duty in her official capacity as a government official…not the flight attendant, not installation of foot baths and not giving prisoners prayer mats/rugs. They all have nothing whatsoever to do with the issue. Thanks, MSM, for yet again fucking everything up and missing the point.
He’s a religious fanatic with no chance of getting ahead in this race and what we saw was a desperate man grasping at straws to get some votes. Earth to Huckabee, there aren’t enough of you crazies to get you elected.
Amen.
Yes, how hard is this? The hornet’s nest has millions of potential scenarios that just should not be allowed. While an employer certainly can make accommodations for a persons religious beliefs, in NO way should they be obligated by law to do it.
Huck: #IJustDontStandWithMuslims
Because the flight attendant was preventing the other flight attendants from serving alcohol as well…
The flight attendant converted to Islam recently and only learned a year ago about the ban on alcohol. But she would have known that alcohol was served in the few years before she converted and probably even served it. She herself has created the dilemma she faces.
Apples and oranges comparison. One holds public office, the other doesn’t. The flight attendant was granted accommodation by her employer and then the employer yanked it based on what seemed to me a bigoted complaint a coworker made to her employer.
