Discussion for article #234119

Well guess what? They’ll never be another honky at SAE either.

ThinkProgress has reported that this incident isn’t the first racist incident from this fraternity (excerpted here):

In December of 2014, SAE’s Clemson University chapter hosted a “Cripmas” party, named after the California-based “Crips” street gang.

In 2006, an SAE member at the University of Memphis quit the fraternity after two other frat members harassed him for dating a black woman.

In 2006, SAE’s Baylor University chapter hosted an “E-Dawg”-themed party that the university’s NAACP chapter labeled “insensitive.”

In 2000, SAE’s Oglethorpe University chapter was put on probation, along with chapters from three other fraternities, after an incident where African American students visiting from other schools faced racial harassment and assault

In 2009, Valdosta State University in Georgia hosted a community forum on “Heritage, Hate or Fear?” that was inspired by the university’s SAE chapter’s practice of flying a Confederate Flag on its front lawn.

In 2012, SAE students were acquitted in the hazing death of a black student at Cornell.

In 2014, two girls were raped at the SAE frat house at Johns Hopkins University.

Until now, there hasn’t been any repercussion for their thuggery.

That kid in the foreground has a certain young Sean Hannity look about him. Oh, wait, Hannity never went to college. My bad.

Now that one of their top football recruits has decided to go elsewhere, cynicism suggests many more students will be “outraged” by the behavior. Reminds me of Sandusky at Penn State everyone was outraged until it meant the football team was adversely affected by NCAA sanctions. This will be a case of Frat Boys being Frat Boys, until a winning football season is threatened. Now it’s a big problem.

Unfortunately, rape and hazing deaths are so common at so many fraternities that SAE isn’t unusual in that regard.

You would think, after Romney was wrecked by the 47% video, and other destructive videos have been used to destroy others, that these morons would learn that public acts of racism, sexism, etc are not going to be overlooked today. But apparently, for some groups like these little twits, the need to make this statement was just too strong; they just couldn’t stop themselves from chanting this kind of disgusting stuff. Wonder how long it will be before the names of the perps are put out there? It will not be difficult to identify faces of those, since the names of the SAE members are known.

You can’t blame SAE for rape, or more accurately, it’s not a specific problem for SAE. This is a problem for the “greek” system in general. The misogyny and disrespect toward women is pervasive thoughout the entire system. That was certainly true during my undergrad days at UofI-UC 70-75. Just as true today.

Douche is the French word for shower and the French word for what Americans mean by “douche” ought to be Romney. These wannabe, Oklahoma Romneys are so profoundly entitled, it’s not even like they blurted it out accidentally. This is someone’s considered, affirmative judgment that he’s on to something. Just like the 47% video.

No worries, racist frat boys. There’s a bright future for you in the OK GOP.

What happened to the women on the bus? Did they get kicked off campus too?

Not unusual, but one of the worst until a recent policy change:

Last year on March 9, Sigma Alpha Epsilon made an unprecedented rule, in an effort to change the culture of what had been labeled the nation’s “deadliest fraternity”: No more pledging.

After a decade of increased hazing that, according to Bloomberg, led to at least 10 deaths of SAE brothers, more than any other Greek organization in the country, the fraternity’s “Eminent Supreme Archon” Bradley M. Cohen wrote in a public message that it was time for dramatic change.

“Our insurance premiums have skyrocketed and, as a result, we are paying Lloyd’s of London the highest insurance rates in the Greek-letter world. Universities have been denying us the opportunity to colonize on their campus, and we have had to close 12 chapters over the past 18 months for hazing or hazing-related situations.”
