Discussion: How The Obamacare Town Hall Script Totally Flipped This Week

It’s great to hear that Democrats and progressives are organizing and making their voices heard in favor of ACA. The GOP has spent years vilifying the law without proposing an alternative. Now the chickens are coming home to roost. In the end, I hope they’ll see it’s easier to tweak the ACA rather than blow it up. But if they decide to replace it with Medicare for all, that wouldn’t bother me one bit. Not going to hold my breath, though.

Excellent article, Ms. Kirkland! Thank you for your thorough, incisive work on this topic.

Good. Let the Republicans feel the pain.

Better yet get them on record as to why the government has no role in affordable health care :stuck_out_tongue:

I read an article along time ago stating the GOP was using Obamacare for politico reasons. Ie… Stoking up anger, fund raising etc… The GOP loved Obamacare to stir chit up. It’s why it never had a replacement.

NOW by winning the GOP has to come up with a plan. Really Obamacare is based off a GOP plan. Only a few choices here. Improve Obamacare which is what people really want done. Repeal it and put something similar to Obamacare in place. Medicare for all or a single payer system. Any choice will upset a certain segment of politico ideology.

I like that people are showing up… I just wish all the people getting screwed by this had voted for Hillary and Democratic Senators last November.

A dark, angry part of me does not want to spare them this pain. Let America get what it deserves, since clearly it is in need of a cautionary tale of what can happen if you don’t think before you vote. Trump is going to do exactly what he showed he would do during the campaign: lie, cheat, and whine. Not much else.

I don’t want the bleeding to stop until every Trump voter has to stop and ask themselves, “Oh God! What have we done?”

If this country so desperately needs a wake up call… I don’t want to spare them the pain. I want them to feel it so that they remember it for a generation.

So they’re getting the Teabag treatment?

I agree but I do wish people would stop proclaiming that the GOP controls all three branches of government. They do not - at least not yet.

Editing to clarify that they don’t control the judicial branch and won’t unless or until another Con gets on SCOTUS

I thought the presidency of George W. Bush was that wake up call. Now we have Trump. Even if voters stop and ask themselves what they have done by putting Trump into office, I have zero faith that remorse will carry over to the next Republican swindler that comes along.

Let’s get this right please - this election was not Normal, nor was it democratic or fair or free. It was a sham.

It isn’t going to fit into the usual pattern we think we’ve seen in voters. We do not know who actually voted and who actually didn’t or in fact voted and had the machine change their vote of their ballots thrown away.

Same thing with abortion - the GOP doesn’t really want to reverse Roe, they just need their forced birthers to think that, if only they had the power, they’d do it, by god!

But they did have that power for the first 6 years of W’s presidency and never once brought a case before the Supremes.

I’m keeping my eyes peeled for any future town hall meetings with McHenry, but the man avoids us like the plague. He doesn’t even have an office in Asheville.

This is true. The judiciary is a wide mix of people from all backgrounds. Thank the universe we’ve had President Obama for eight years to have the long-lasting effect of keeping things on a more even keel, a fairer justice system for all. His appointments will go a long way in blunting some of the very worst of what Trump’s people will try.

I’m not going to watch any part of the inauguration but I hope he gives a totally incoherent inaugural address for any non-rubes who voted for him.
