Discussion: How The NRA's Controversial Gambit To Fix Its Finances Backfired

OT but everythibg’s OT anymore with trump…
A guy at yesterday’s rally said border crossers should be shot…

Fuck you trump. You have blood on your hands already

So many layers to this! I’ll just comment that “murder insurance” could also be “fantasy enactment coverage”. I don’t own a firearm. But in those moments when I imagine that I do, as well as conceal -carry it, I always wonder (fantasize) how I would behave in a “good-guy-with-a-gun” situation. Reading the ads from the screenshots above scares the piss out of me. Every man for himself. Yow!

I see no reason for not having universal background checks, safety courses, liability insurance and a lot of other stuff in relation to guns. (apologies for the double negative…it’s early where I am)
We need to get control of guns somehow because children at school should never have to fear going to school and fucking surviving the goddamned day

I did not mean liability insurance as “murder insurance” Surely you see that.

The sad state of the once well-heeled NRA shows the problem of getting what you wish for. The weekly school shooting has been reduced to a “thoughts & prayers” tweet. Gun manufacturers have to promise “super-lethality” just to move product. And no black president coming for your home arsenal. Such are the pitfalls of the Age of Impunity.

I’m sorry for the confusion. My response is to the original story in which the term, “murder insurance” is used as what most gun-contro advocates call liability insurance program from the NRA.

Not only are they going bankrupt, but they’re doing it while trying to squeeze every last dollar from their members for worthless insurance. Apparently the NRA wants you to buy insurance to cover you for an intentional act - like shooting someone in the middle of the street because he was speaking a foreign language (see earlier story). Of course getting a certificate to sell insurance and jumping through all the necessary hoops is clearly in violation of the Second Amendment, Sounds like they just want to declare open season on people that don’t look like they belong - In other words, non-white, non-overtly macho, intellectuals, elites, and non-Fox watching folk who aren’t wearing a MAG(got)A hat. Who could complain about that?

No worries
Liability insurance should be a protection to the owner should someone else misuse their weapon in some bone headed way.
Personally I am very happy to see the NRA’s sad state of affairs. I hope this spells their end.

There are more guns than people in the USA. And millions of bone headed folk. The combination scares the piss out of me. Half the population by definition has to be below average intelligence.

Yes, he does. Trump is directly responsible for thousands of deaths in Venezuela due to starvation, disease and etc.
His sanctions crippled the country and cut them off from credit markets and legitimate income. One study says it could be as many as 40,000 that have died because of Trump’ sanctions. No one really knows for sure the exact number. Sure, Venezuela was hurting due to corruption and incompetence before the sanctions. His sanctions were like taking a arthritic, limping person and capping both knees and saying… it’s so sad how that person cannot walk now.
The sanctions are illegal according to US and OAS laws.
Not one politician on our side of isle has spoke out against what Trump is doing to Venezuela. Same as when the family separation policy was implemented at the border. Our leadership was well aware of the family separation policy from the start. They said nothing until it hit the newspapers. Only then was it a bad policy to our leadership. The Newspapers are also complicit. They run story after story on the suffering there without saying who’s really to blame for the hyper inflation, food and medicine shortages.
Let one person here say the NYT and the Washington Post does not have any idea why Venezuela is such bad shape and I’ll just ignore them. Anyone that dumb is beyond responding to.

Added:
I forgot to mention that one politician did mention our brutal sanctions crippling Venezuela.
Ihan Omar said it on Democracy Now and was immediately attacked by many on the right.

The Second Amendment is another suicidal defect in the Constitution.

But, of course, the American Revolution was started by a bunch of rich racist armed white men who were angry about taxes. You know, kind of like the ones still ruling the country.

Not much has changed.

Average and median in this case are not much different I suspect. I well know the difference between median and average.

“The NRA has encountered serious difficulties obtaining corporate insurance coverage, media liability coverage, and basic banking services,” the July 2018 document reads, going on to say that though the NRA has tried to find new business partners, “nearly every carrier has indicated that it fears transacting with the NRA.”

Even insurance companies and banks have their limits, Wayne. Your stink has become so noxious they can’t have it on them.

I saw a tweet that quoted a child saying that he had a bat so that if nothing else, he could “go down swinging.”
What have we become when even children don’t believe that we care to keep them safe?

Then don’t use the term “by definition” to describe the average when you’re defining the median.
