Discussion: How Fox News’ Toxic Culture Is Finally Catching Up To It

If schadenfreude is toxic I may be in trouble.

Yup, I suspect I am OD’ing on it too.

An org like Fox will understandably get lots of attention for this culture, but I suspect these behaviors are rife in any number of smaller orgs and victims just roll with it or quit. I’ve lost track of what I’ve witnessed and learned of 2nd hand over nearly 4 decades in mostly large companies.
And mgrs in these businesses can handle it very simply: Engage in these behaviors and you’re subject to dismissal. That cures it fast. I’ve seen it done.

Thank you, Ronald Reagan, who changed the FCC regulations to allow Murdoch to possess media outlets in the U.S. (a favor to Murdoch) – and almost simultaneously dismantling the Fairness Doctrine. Talk about a cesspool. I say close them down and run their asses out of the country, rescind their citizenship.

Compelled female arm-wrestling? What the holy fucking hell is wrong with these people?

It sounds like Slater is trying to bring back the days antebellum slavery.

To be fair, not that Murdoch deserves it, the fairness doctrine would have only affected Fox-affiliated local news outlets that used the airways to broadcast. Fox News Channel on cable wouldn’t have been subject to it.

It’s boring as hell to have to come to work and do the same thing, say the same thing, and put the same spin on the same damn idiotic GOP activities. Folks put their jobs on cruise control and look around for some diversion. A little doodle dashing here, some White privilege there, and the time between coffee breaks goes by quickly. After a while everyone is doing it. Or the business is run like a business, and not an adult play pen. Attitude, attitude is everything.

True – and thanks for pointing that out. I sometimes forget that element. It would have helped keep them somewhat in check, as the local affiliates would have gotten tired of having to contradict the main folks … and possible liability if they didn’t.

Sure does sound like the old plantation mentality is alive and well at 19th Century Fox!

True, but it would have put paid to Rush Limbaugh. Right-wing hate radio couldn’t exist under the Fairness Doctrine.

Fox News has been a toxic waste dump for a long, long time. It cannot be recycled!

Who else but a racist, misogynist assh*le or enabler would ever stay in a management job at fox once the pattern was established.

Here’s what we’re not hearing about: How many women at Fox did sleep with Ailes, or O’Reilly, or Hannity? Who are they?

It’s certainly non-zero, or the culture wouldn’t have persisted.

It’s like you stole the letters right off of my keyboard. In what world would you have to exist to think any of this is OK? It’s like pondering the infinite size of the universe. Can’t get my head around it.

I’m sure this reprehensible behavior will be condemned from pulpits coast to coast and Christian organizations will call for a boycott,.

And what happened to them afterwards?

Omg, Maddow is on fire now.

Is anyone really shocked that a news organization that perpetuates an ideology that discriminates against women in the first place has sexual harassment going on? A bigger questuon is why do a lot of women subscribe to this ideilogy?
