Well. Either Ro Khanna or Ro Khann’t. We’ll know soon enough.
OT:
Bernie, you set a trend:
Mere days after the big Bernie Sanders town hall, Fox News has announced an upcoming town hall with another Democrat running for president.
Senator Amy Klobuchar is set to do a town hall in May, moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.
The Sanders Fox News town hall was the highest-rated of the 2020 cycle thus far, and there’s been reports about other Democrats considering town halls with the network as well.
The Klobuchar town hall is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th in Milwaukee.
Great article, Cameron. I’ve been trying to get my mind around Khanna and this is helpful. Rather protean and highly vocal, a combination I’m not particularly fond of, personally.
OT, but re: NRA and NRATV:
Something stinks. Where else does NRATV or whatever companies it is associated with get money other than from the NRA? Is there a better way to cover laundering than to fake a suit and then settle it? If there is, I don’t know of it.
Khanna is my Congressman, although I did not vote for him. This article confirms what I’ve felt for some time…basically, he’s a carpetbagger. Running against 3 different congressman (well, one he was GOING to but missed the chance) and running on different basics, “refining” his message.
I don’t doubt he has some good ideas and might actually do some good work, but this article doesn’t do anything to dispel that nagging doubt that every decision is in his own best interest. If that aligns with his constituents, well, that’s just fortunate kismet.
While we do have to sell the future, we also have to shape the future, because if the future is just the present writ large, most Americans are going to be living under overpasses. The coming challenge is providing a decent income for every American. If there aren’t any jobs, those Americans left out are going to have to share in the prosperity the new technology is going to generate.
By the way if we decide to continue with the current policies the Richie Riches of the world won’t have a market for the stuff their robots build.
So, an insincere fraud. Karma would catch him.
He’s been unafraid to buck party leadership and unusually active in pitching new policy proposals.
Brilliant move Sen Sanders.
A very smart guy who accumulates puzzling and contradictory statements about the left of his party will be the co-chair of a an old socialist independent with a very puzzling aversion to vote against Russian interests. Hmmm…
Sanders is going after the liberal billionaire support. That’s reasonable, not horrifying, if these people are supportive of Bernie’s policies, probably with tech policies the most important to them. We’ll have to wait and see.
We can be sure Bernie isn’t plotting to build a wall or give Saudi Arabia nukes, or be pals with N Korea, or grovel to Putin.
and glad to see. I would must better than the FOX news audience see Klobachur and others. They already see “crazy bernie” talking about taking away people’s health care and raising their taxes every day…
It is the “Moderate” democrats who don’t get coverage on FOX, FOX is all Omar, OAC, and Bernie, all the time.
You better run that by @surge first.
I’m not fond of democrats who say we need a change from the alleged both extremes, the left and the right, because there is no functioning leftist extreme in this country. Not even Bernie.
This is what Obama said in 2008. “Support me because unlike Hillary, Republicans will like me enough to work with me.” How’d that work out for you?
I suspect that FOX went easy on him to get other Dems to come out.
I find it highly intriguing that he was backed by John Arnold. Bit of a blast from the past for me since he pretty much single-handedly caused the implosion of my former employer many many years ago. That aside, this was an interesting read. I’d known very little about Khanna before now and appreciate the education.
He seems, erm, flighty.
Also, anyone who’s in bed with Peter Thiel, Marissa Mayer, and Sheryl Sandberg…
Flagged. Your hate speech is not acceptable.
“Bernie Sanders talks about the New Deal and fulfillment of some of that,” Khanna told TPM. “I want to talk about how these policies are going to help us in the 21st century.”
Personally, I find this to be a very attractive combination.
The promise of the New Deal was never completely realized, although the ACA helped move us in the direction of universal health care. And of course the republicans have consistently tried to roll back provisions of the New Deal. The spirit of the New Deal needs to be a key element of a Democratic platform. The Green New Deal can be the updated version of that (and the progressives in the party, including Bernie Sanders support it). But there also needs to be a focus on the future, an optimism, a focus on education and research - and inclusiveness therein.
So, I like this combination. I think its god for the party.
