Houston floods in a heavy dew, because it’s flat, it’s all paved over, and it has terrible drainage. This sort of nonsense happens at least once a year. At least.
And every year, people act like it’s never happened before. Kudos to the reporter for stepping in, but his initial reaction – “why are you doing that?” – was exactly right.
Interfering in the process of natural selection exacts a price.
Holy shit you can see him putting it in reverse like he’s going to back out. Man he really seems disoriented. Wonder if that was from some kind of shock or is he off his meds or on some meds he shouldn’t be on.
“Despite all this heavy rain and seasonal flooding issues it never occurred to me the roads might be flooded. Thank god you were here!”
Not dealing with climate change and shortchanging our failing infrastructure has its cost.
Too bad Texas doesn’t get that because Houston really is a world-class city.
If this happens every year, why doesn’t the city put some barriers or signs or something so that people stay away?
The backup lights were a nice touch…30 seconds too late, but…
The guy does seem kinda impaired. Or maybe just shocked.
He’s a resident of Texas. You’re being redundant.
That’s just it, he was probably so disoriented the didn’t even realize he wasn’t moving forward for that long. He really looked out of it.
Yeah – but the 90K+ people moving here every year tend to be completely oblivious to the dangers that those of us who’ve lived here for most of our lives know to avoid.
I do get a chuckle though when folks from our California operations come to town for the first time and experience an afternoon frog strangler… had one gal start to dive under the conference table when a thunderclap hit and set off the car alarms in the parking lot.
As to the drainage – all the new high density development hasn’t helped, but the bayou restoration (removing concrete and going back to natural courses) looks promising.
Hey now!
D’oh!
