Discussion: House Vote To Approve Iran Nuclear Deal Fails

Discussion for article #240396

“The Senate action guaranteed that any legislation disapproving the pact will never reach Obama’s desk.”

Why does this assessment sound too bigly?

The Senate action guaranteed that any legislation disapproving the pact will never reach Obama’s desk.

We were all so busy watching the Trump shiny object that those millions spent on deceptive anti-deal commercials never resonated. :’-(

With 162 voting to approve, it appears that the House had more than enough votes (+17) to sustain a presidential veto…

Only three hours of debate? I was expecting a Wagnerian Twilight of the Gods extravaganza, with multiple costume changes, spotlit oratorios, and historical reenactments of the Alamo, Pearl Harbor, and 9-11.

I even heard that they were engineering some special undergarments for Rep. Marsha Blackburn to give her that Hollywood-fabulous “lift” and media-friendly “pop” for the cameras for when she hit her mark and wept for her “once great nation.”

So, what am I supposed to do now with all this popcorn?!

Save it for the debate next week. Five days and counting to side splitting guffaws that will leave you little time to bite the kernels.

For the anti-deal lunatics who were and are pitching a fit over the deal that was never actually in doubt would be put into effect (there was literally nothing Congress could do to stop it since it wasn’t a legitimate issue they wanted to insert themselves into)…

I am heart-broken that Sheldon Adelson flushed millions of dollars down the toilet.

Every single member of Congress knew this would be the outcome when they approved the compromise months ago. This entire week is nothing but showmanship and fundraising. In their heart of hearts Republicans knew they couldn’t stop the deal and didn’t really want to, they just wanted their time in the public eye.

This only means the House will schedule 51 more votes to disapprove the Iran deal.

Given that the House has no authority over treaty making, why do they get to waste time with a “symbolic” vote? Assholes.

That was pretty poorly worded. The Senate dems did not vote to uphold the deal but to uphold a filibuster. I hated it when the media talked that way when the Republicans were obstructing things for no point and I don’t like it in this case even though I agree with the Dems actions. The Dems voted to not allow debate and met the 40% threshold while a majority voted to move on with the debate but did not meet a 60% threshold despite having a majority. There, fixed it.

For a casino owner, he’s certainly shown piss-poor judgement, losing some mighty expensive bets.

So the House sides with the Iranian hardliners.
Expected that.
They both want Iran to build a weapon so we can have ongoing eternal war. It’s all about profit.

Well…republicans are in the majority currently so illogic will out.

Does that mean they have to drop the additional 50 votes to repeal Obamacare? Or will they work additional shifts? Wait, what am I thinking? Expecting actual work from a Republican controlled Congress? That’s so Eisenhower era of me.

And then they scheduled a vote to repeal Obamacare!
