Discussion for article #235385

Now that’s what I call laying down some public policy. Bada Bing!

What district does this guy represent in PA? Any chance we can get rid of him in 2016?

I see this as a blatant conflict of interest. He should be forced to resign his committee post. But the law is so lax in this area.

He’s the son of Bud Shuster, who held the seat since Christ was a corporal. Both of them are adept at bringing lots of pork to an otherwise poor district, so he’ll be there until he’s arrested or carried out feet first.

Nope, no possible conflict there. You heard the man – she doesn’t lobby his office.

And, in their personal relationship, they keep a solid wall (of latex) between her interests and his.

Lobbyists who f### House chairs probably win awards. But they should probably be put in prison.

We’d have to build new prisons to hold them all.

It’s an heirloom district: red since before WW II.

Been in the Shuster family over 2 generations, since Nixon was re-elected in the campaign that gave us Watergate.

Bill’s pop Bud operated the franchise for the first 14 terms, while young Billy finished up school, worked the family farm a while, used his dad’s connections to get some cushy corporate gigs, got into car sales (in the '90s! sweet times for car sales). When the old man retired, naturally he passed the 9th over to his son.

Bud was a piece of work: unrequited Nixonian anti-commie, a CIA DOMESTIC who “infiltrated” American anti-racist anti-bigotry anti-poverty and anti-war movements like the NAACP, which the CIA would use as Kabuki substitutes to try and skeer us all into believing yer world wide commie conspiracy agitators and dupes had opened up franchises in America (sort of like Crackers Graham claims Islam’s doing now). Also, something of a BillO before there was BillO, a big fat liar of lying lies: for decades on the campaign trial he claimed that during those years he was working for the CIA doing illegal domestic spying on Americans that he was serving in the US military. 14 terms, 28 years in Congress, notable even in that crowd as the GOP’s prince of pork.

The 9th is in western Pennsylvania, mostly rolling hills, rural and suburban, >> 97% << white. Seems every 2 years Bill gets primaried - he’s more pork than tea - and it’s generally pretty close (and getting closer), but in the general he rolls the Dem like a down-grain putt on a just-mowed green at Oakmont on a still day in August - a half hour’s drive up from McKeesport, where Bill and the ex had their house.

So Bill’s vulnerable, yes, but to cannibals not Dems.

I like him more for ‘since Christ was a CIA op’.

I hope she’s satisfied.

She’s doing to him what the Republicans are doing to the country.

How could this not present at least an appearance of impropriety? She can lobby other members of the committee he chairs, and they all know of her intimate relationship with their committee Chair. Only an idiot would not see the problem for committee members who do not want to get on the wrong side of its Chair or who would perceive any statement by the Chair favorable to the lobbyist position as pressure and influence peddling for the industry position… (In addition, she is no doubt getting information from him in an intimate setting that she can use to lobby other members of the committee he chairs (wife’s edit)).

Duh…why would she need to if she’s wetting your willy?

She gets to lobby him outside office hours under circumstances where her offers cannot be refused as long as he is satisfied.

Could be his staff , that she is not lobbying.
