This clown ran unopposed last time. Also, when the GOP embarked on their odious redistricting project in TX, Smith specifically asked them to draw his district so UT Austin would fall inside his district. He’s the worst kind of idiot.
Ticket splitting will only add to more gridlock
Duh! Mea Culpa.
“Corporations are people, too, my friend!” Especially when they have bought off their pet members of Congress. We don’t have to remove every Republican representative, but ditching this idiot would be a great start. C’mon Texas voters in his district, I know he’s on the ballot in November. Do the right thing, please.
You have a new career waiting for you at The Onion.
I love how he said that NOAA “altered the data” to support this administration. Uh, he forgot to address the 200 different scientific organizations from around the world that ALSO support the evidence of human caused GW.
Why don’t we just dig a big hole, throw in all of the deniers and bury them alive.
I would call that a good start for carbon sequestration.
The Republicans may be science deniers, but the Democrats are action deniers. They won’t lift a finger to stop the multi-trillion dollar fossil fuel wars, or stop fracking, or stop off shore drilling, or stop oil pipelines from being built over private property, or stop paying the fossil fuel monopoly hundreds of billions of dollars in corporate welfare.
That makes the Democrats just as bad and just as guilty as the Republicans. They’re all on the take, except for Bernie Sanders and a couple of others in Congress.
Conservatives love big government, and in fact believe government is the answer.
Just not liberal rule by the majority.
Rather, conservatism is about empowering elitists, like Lamar Smith, who intend to control everything everyone thinks, and to tear up all scientific data, which is a threat to their sole judgment.
Lamar Smith is why Texas is going blue.
So now it’s come to point that the GOP just openly does the industry’s dirty work for them. Have they no shame? At long last, have they no shame?
Lamar Smith is my lovely Congrassman. He does not “believe” in science at all. He is a Christian Scientist, for real. He tried to pray away his first wife’s breast cancer. That didn’t work, so he married another wife who doesn’t believe in Texas. They live on Cape Cod.
An Attorney General has subpoena power. One of them needs to subpoena the Science Committee for all their records regarding their decision to subpoena them - as in investigation of an attempt to obstruct justice.
Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) is himself a fully owned subsidiary of the fossil fuel industry.
He has conducted his committee as if it were the research department of the American Petroleum Institute.
He should be identified as such. The id information after his name should read (R-API) rather than (R-TX)
“Lamer” Smith is a one stop shop on why the “Democrats” need to stop trying to fill one office with one particular candidate every four to eight years and put just as much effort into filling at least 218 seats in the House and at least 51 seats in the Senate at the same time.
The fact that a specimen like Smith persists in “Government” isn’t so much a testimonial to State-Bread Stupidity, as it is to the fact that there is no longer any sort of politically effective opposition to call him out on his unforgivable stupity.
It’s been proven time and again. It’s an “erosion process.” Call out “Lamer” and all his pals often enough to expose them for the rank and file embarrassments which they are. Eventually, the people of the State, get dragged thru the mud because the person representing them is an insipid lame brain. When it reaches a certain point, people will elect someone else. Or the lame brain caucus gets so small that they can no longer influence government policy, and simply become part of the political side show that fades with time.
The people are supposed to have a stake in eliminating stupidity in the government to which they consent.
It is the role of the opposition party to point out such stupidity whenever possible, right alongside the “free press.”
Now, with all that said, who is it on the “democratic” side that calls out “Lamer” Smith on a regular basis?
As long as ( Insert some nameless faceless Democrat here) isn’t doing their job, America is “stuck” with prize packages like “Lamer Smith.”
It is supposed to require at least two parties to run American Government. One of them being stupid is par for the course. The other party not calling them out on it each and every day is ten times worse.
Lamar Smith and his supporters have not figured out that chev/exxo market their fuel now as ‘unbeatable’ [used to be ‘best’] but it is not bc all fuel additives are the same; it costs under ONE UScent to triple the amount per USGallon; fuel with them and by the time your vehicle’s odometer reaches an hundred thousand miles, you will have paid them an extra $4,000 to $8,000 or more.
We are now 21 years beyond the release of the Michael Douglas/Annette Bening rom-com, written by Aaron Sorkin. The comedy premise is that climate legislation is possible. Today, here in reality, we have the crusty Lamar Smith, who should be comedy gold, working as hard he can to turn the demise of mankind into a very unfunny and sad unwinding by pushing a version of what might be called “Lifeboatism”. Instead of “Women and children first!” it’s “Incumbent oil and gas producers first!”
US scientific literacy is now the lowest in the industrial world, and to be below Italy, that’s something. However, the classic GOP committee setup of “fox watching the henhouse” may backfire in Lamar’s case. Yesterday Moody’s came out with an analysis of last year’s bankruptcies.
In 2015, Moody’s recorded 17 oil & gas bankruptcies in its Ultimate Recovery Database (“Database”), with 15 coming from the Exploration & Production sector, one from oilfield services, and one from drilling. E&P bankruptcies have accelerated in 2016, with the number year-to-date about twice the figure for all of 2015.
As we see, the oil guys beat their creditors to court, dancing away into the sunset. At the same time, the burned investors are asking, “Where were the regulators in all this?”
Well, you know, they kicked their stars (Adam and Eve) out of heaven for seeking knowledge.
“Make Texas Great Again, vote in Democrats”!
