Discussion: House Science Committee's Climate Change Denialism Enters New Phase

Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX)

To serve on the Science Committee one should have, at minimum, a public High School level science education. Texas and Louisiana High Schools don’t count.

Does Lamar Smith have any financial ties to Exon?

This in a nutshell is why I disavow the current GOP…

If they are going to blatantly lie about science topics for which we have a good handle of the actual facts, why should we trust them in any matter of opinion???

I know this is rhetorical but, WHO THE FK DO THESE NIMRODS THINK THEY ARE?

While Smith has previously conducted investigations into the executive branch and scientists funded by Congress, now the chairman has issued subpoenas to two state attorneys general conducting a criminal investigation. He made a wide-ranging request for communications the states had with each other, environmental groups, and the federal government about an “investigation or potential prosecution of companies, nonprofit organizations, scientists, or other individuals related to the issue of climate change.”

Because exposing documents in an ongoing criminal investigation is always a good idea.

Let’s see a list of this idiot’s biggest donors. It would be useful for voters to know who he works for.

And the MSM will now feel obligated to blame the Democrats just as much for the fact that our House of Representatives is gridlocked by the likes of Lamar Smith (R-Exxon).

I received a pretty good high school and college education in Texas. The high school education even included comprehensive sex education and the college education was heavily subsidized by the state so I only paid about $200 per semester in tuition.

Of course, at that time, the state was run by Democrats…

Mr. Smith appears to think that it is Congress’ duty to represent the accused industry rather than the People of the United States. They already have lawyers, sir. Cutting Waste, Fraud, and Abuse may be as simple as removing the GOP from Congress.

Yeah, unfortunately, Lamar Smith went to Yale for college. Once again, Connecticut screwing up Texas. They gave us the Bushes, and apparently Lamar Smith. I’m starting to think that Texas’s problem isn’t Texas, but instead there is a state with a serious size inferiority complex that is just messing with us.

But Smith has insisted that the committee is operating within its jurisdiction, arguing that the committee is looking into whether the state probes impose "an adverse impact on federally-funded scientific research"

Like preventing the CDC from studying gun violence?

Are there any Repubs in Congress who don’t deny climate change? Just wondering.

The GOP’s relationship with science:

“If it agrees with my preconceived, biblical, feelings about the world, its GOOD science, I support it”
“If it disagrees with my world view, its BAD science, and needs to be investigated”.

I’m not sure but iirc McCain dipped his toe in the anti-denial waters in '08. The problem is the Republican base and they’re led by the Conservative Entertainment Complex.

This “nobility in ignorance” crap that uneducated people hide behind is getting stale. Someone needs to come down on the allowance for blatant lies to be perpetuated

The thing about climate change is, it doesn’t give a rat’s ass if you believe in it or not.

Another good reason, Saint Ronnie, Jan 1981:

Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.

Why would you elect people who are determined to prove that quote right?
