Discussion: House Republicans Tell McConnell To Ax The Filibuster For Immigration Fight

Discussion for article #233197

“Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) backed up his colleague, accurately pointing out that the filibuster is not protected by the Constitution, and suggested that McConnell at least scrap the filibuster on the motion to proceed to debate bills.”

Correct if I’m wrong but that would not eliminate the filibuster on a final vote and if Dems take the Senate in 2016,then GOPs couldn’t filibuster debate on a bill…

Forget-'bout-it fathead, focus on overturning the president’s veto. That is what the constitution says and i’ll bet my bottom dollar, you and your fellow RWNJ will not SUCCEED! Now, go away…

Keep flapping those pie holes, conservatives. The good folks over at the Spanish language TV/radio stations are spreading your “word” far and wide. Stupidity, thy name is Republican.

This is what a “historic” election victory gets you with our constitutional system. Frustration and heartburn. In order to achieve a dramatic change in course, you need to win several election cycles in row, like at least 3. That would allow you to turn over the Senate, win the Presidency, and take and hold the House. Winning every other cycle in non Presidential years isn’t even close to getting it done you republican boneheads.

Or to quote Jim Geraghty’s (National Review) response on twitter the night of the elections in 2014. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Who’s laughing now Jimbo!

McConnell is not so stupid that he doesn’t realize that there is an excellent chance of the repubs losing the Senate in two years. If he eliminates the filibuster, then there will be no one to reinstate it when his party is on the outs. Yertle is fully aware that repubs don’t do governance; they do opposition. There is no way that he will agree voluntarily to eliminating the filibuster.

KoChurian candidates one and all…

They have been rendered incapable of independent thought.

I doubt McConnell will go there, he’s a republicrap for sure, but he’s not completely insane.

Yep, and particularly if their inability to get anything done results in Republicans handing the Senate right back to Democrats. If things keep going as they are, Obama’s popularity continues to grow, the economy keeps humming along, then the 2016 campaign will most likely be Obama’s final victory lap and a battle over social issues. That would be a nightmare for Republicans.

I’d like to think that’s true, but lately the Republicans seem so focused on winning the here and now, and without a moment’s thought for what happens tomorrow.

I really needed a laugh, and then - hallelujah, bitches! - I came across this bit of hilarity. Just yesterday I read that Obama thinks the filibuster should be eliminated and now - miracle of miracles! - the Titsucking Teabaggers are screaming they agree with him. Yes, Mitch, show us your brave turtle balls and dump the filibuster. Do it, Mitch! Just remember, along with your harebrained Republican colleagues in both Houses of Congress, that you cannot eliminate the Constitutional provision that requires a 2/3 majority vote total in both the Senate and the House to override a Presidential veto, which you will never get, no matter how long you stamp your feet and hold your breath until you turn all shades of purple. I can see Harry Reid and the rest of the Dems laughing and licking their chops until 2016.
Man, these assholes really are too stupid to live.

The Teabaggers are desperate for Obama to veto it so they can blame the ni(CLANG!) for SOMEthing!

It’s called “turn-around, back-at-cha!” And Obama’s veto still there!
