And the sad thing is, republican concern has nothing to do how it affects people, just their appearance and how it affects their next election.
Pelosi is going to chip away at Trump’s wall until it collapses under its own weight. The main problem is that it is going to take time and Trump will never be able to admit his mistake. She is putting the Repugs in a box where they are damned if they continue to support Trump or damned if they don’t, and the irony is that the whole situation was created by Trump and Paul Ryan.
I would think TSA would be another biggie.
EXACTLY… let’s see how things look after tonight’s campaign rally.
Don’t forget McConnell
Now if this were a musical it’d be time for the House Republicans to break out in song that would capture the emotional situation:
No problemo! PToad’s got all the ntiworks onside for tonight, goes on the 'tube, 'splains Get Wall-Do direct to the peeps, declare merger, in bed to watch the overnights on Fox.
And now the mfer is messing with the beer. THE BEER.
F them one, F them all. The shutdown is 100% Republicans’ fault. Far be it from me to absolve The Rump of anything, but the Presidential Sharpie has no bill to sign or veto. Foul and blameworthy though he may be, The Rump has done nothing but emit hot air.
when trump is involved, here’s the song that comes to my mind:
A staffer at Cornyn’s Austin, TX office said yesterday that McConnell knows the GOP has a veto-proof majority right now but he refuses to bring any legislation to the floor unless it’s already approved by Trump. The slime ball could send the same bill that got 100% support in the Senate, but he won’t do it now; just to let Trump save face. The republicans are pure scum. If Cornyn’s staff admits that this is nothing but bad-faith politics, it must be really putrid.
All Mitch needs to do to take the pressure off of congressional republicans is to allow the house bill through the Senate (which passed unanimously a month ago) and make Trump veto it.
Or they could get it through in a veto proof majority and sort of put Trump on notice. A veto proof majority is the same majority needed to remove him from office. This could be a subtle way to reign Trump in which would really benefit Republicans politically to show they have some measure of control.
Clearly the GOP is more concerned with reelection and optics than, you know, legislating. And the rule of law.
Dennis Hastert, disgraced former Speaker and disgusting fan of young men, refused to bring any legislation to the House floor unless it could pass without needing any Democrats’ votes- even if the measure had broad bipartisan support.
Comity in the House began failing a long time ago and McConnell’s just parroting this.
The GOP, in my mind, is clearly Unamerican.
These things need to be passed. I don’t question that. Yet a heartless part of me wishes Pelosi would simply say that there is a bill the Senate is sitting on that they could pass to hand to the President. Until that moves on, we have nothing further to discuss.
Sometimes being the caring, responsible party sucks. If they pass these half measures, I feel like it will give Republicans cover to keep the government closed.
I know and it will make them look worse once Mueller shows his hand. They would be smart to put so.e daylight between Trump and themselves.
Yep, and even on that I think they they making the wrong play.
I would like to see Nancy Pelosi channel Javier Bardem’s character in No Country for Old Men. In a metaphorical, legislative way, of course. Pursue them, corner them, pin them down. Make their lives hell.
Nancy Pelosi is going to hang the Rethuglicans, leave them twisting slowly in the wind, and there is nothing they can do about it, because tRump.
