Discussion: House Republicans Dropping Big Money To Shore Up Seats Once Viewed As Safe

But her EARRINGS!

This is confirming something I’ve suspected for awhile: the GOP’s own polling has them losing the House badly. That’s why we’re seeing the collective freak outs. What I think the GOP polling is showing is a clear preference among white independent voters for Democrats. That support is coming from across the age spectrum, but particularly in the vote rich 35-49, 50-64 and 65+ groups. It’s not that the GOP is losing them to 3rd parties or that Indies aren’t going to vote. What they’re seeing is that the GOP’s coalition losses are the Dems’ gains and they also see Dems turning out at a high level.

I’m starting to get serious anxiety over this election. It’s not like the last one, when we were all blindsided. If the Dems don’t win the House, the level of emotional despair and disappointment will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen - especially among young voters. Okay, time for deep breaths.

Khyber900: you and I posted at the same time and you made me feel better. Thank you …

800k seems like a boatload for a single congressional seat. I wonder what else they could be buying with that kind of money.

Frankly, before that I was shocked when Kerry lost to Bush. Kerry wasn’t a perfect candidate, but Bush? Jesus.

Oddly after that election my wife kind of checked out of politics and I became a bit of a blog junkie.

Enjoy your new House Banking Committee chair, GOP: The Honorable Maxine Waters.

(Invest in Schadenfreude EpiPens now, before there’s a run.)

I think this is exactly what’s happening in Wash 3rd, which is right across the river from Portland. Carolyn Long has out raised and out worked Herrera Beutler and I suspect the polling is starting to reflect that fact. I’ve been working for her through swing left, since Earl Blumenauer is safe in “Communist” Portland.

While reading the tea leaves is fascinating, it’s crucial that we all vote. I hope we dismantle the Republicans to such a degree that even the MSM has to recognize their rejection by the American people.

Her district includes rural Thurston County where my daughter lives. But those ad buys will be for the Vancouver area don’t you think? And it is a shit ton of money for that district!

The thought of Auntie heading up the Banking Committee makes me want to sob tears of pure joy.

The big-spending Republican groups focused on keeping the House are moving large sums into some unexpected districts in an effort to shore up seats and incumbents that looked safe for their party until just a few weeks ago.

Hey, wait, what about the Kavanaugh bump? I thought it was going to be “Kavanaugh, caravan, mobs”?

Also, I expect it’s only going to get worse. The Dotard’s behavior this week has been especially abhorrent if not outright evil. As his rallies increase and his and the GOP’s polling decreases, I suspect he’s going to get even more frenzied and unhinged. That will in turn drive down their polling even more. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. By Election Day, there will be people that might have voted for a Republican they personally like who’ll vote against them because they want a check on that sick bastard in the WH.

Unless you’re watching cable news in which case they claim there’s a GOP resurgence and that there’s a question of whether there’s going to be a Blue Wave at all. Y’know, typical horse race stuff that ignores all evidence and tries to dramatize things.

Oh, it’s for real—it’s just that it has been helpful to Democrats rather than to Republicans.
Karma being the bitch that she is, I can’t stop laughing.

The NRCC is spending big money here in Minnesota to try to save Erik Paulsen’s seat in the House, running outright racist and libelous ads to try to protect him, while the Republican Senate Fund has purchased big ad-buys for Karen Housley - R in her attempt to unseat Tina Smith - D, which looks increasingly futile.
NOBODY is spending money on the Republican governor’s race candidate: Jeff Johnson, who is guaranteed to lose to Tim Waltz.
The most heinous ads are reserved for Keith Ellison -D in the AG race where incessant race-baiting, Muslim-bashing, and accusations of domestic battery (unproven) are hammering him. This is the most dangerous race because the Republican is in the pocket of the Big Money Corporations and will destroy everything our current and excellent AG, Lori Swanson has done. He has pledged to pull Minnesota out of the lawsuits against the destruction of the AHCA and the lawsuits against the Citizenship question on the upcoming Census. He has also stated during a fund-raiser that “On Day one I will fire every single Democratic Attorney from the AG’s office!” to thundering applause from the CEOs he was speaking to. For some reason the DNC is ignoring this race completely and I see NO ADS of any kind supporting Ellison.

I think it’s more fitting to call it the Kavanaugh hump.
