Discussion: House Republicans Don't Want Dems Probing State-Level Voting Rights Issues

When we investigated Benghazi for 10 years it perfectly legit. When the Republican head of the Intelligence Committee jumped the fence of the White House at midnight to get classified information from Ezra Cohen Watnick, it was perfectly legit. When the House Oversight Committee has the gall to look into Voting Rights violations by former Segregationist States, they are clearly acting beyond the scope of their authority.

See, e.g., House Rule X.

Then I suggets you read the Voting Rights Act yourself. Congress can step into ANY state’s efforts to supress the voting rights of any American citizen.

holy shit!! does Nancy know?

Roman numeral.

That said, Rule X, section 4©(2) states, “…[T]he Committee on Oversight and Government Reform may at any time conduct investigations of any matter without regard to … this clause conferring jurisdiction over the matter to another standing committee.”

“They are afraid the Democrats are going to find out how GOP/Russia rigged the vote.”

huh? oh, you mean how they weaponized the email shit after the comey blunder (#2). state and local gops in wisconsin, michigan, missouri, indiana, ohio, pennsylvania, new hampshire, and north carolina might have left tracks? yeah. if they handled it with their usual level of competence, they are well and truly fucked.

How fucking Western Civ Major is that of Jim Jordan. Who woulda thunk. Roman Numerals show that trailer trash such as Steve King and Jim (Hey, do you like my singlet?) Jordan are the true guardians of Classical Western Civ.

How does gym Jordan even get any say into what the committe does. He’s in the mionority and should start realising it

The issue there isn’t that they used a Roman numeral, it’s that when you’re going to footnote something, you should do it properly[1]. This is just lazy, slapdash crap that isn’t even worth putting a footnote in for.

  1. For example, actually providing a copy of the URL you provided, or citing the applicable text of House Rule X. In other words: what you just did. That would have been a perfectly reasonable footnote. But just repeating the text they footnoted as the footnote is absolute garbage.

Ah, of course. Comments seemed[1] to be wondering what the rule was.

Left out the intermediaries. the NRA.

They’re pretty rank, alright, permanently embedded in my nostrils and I’m not at all happy about it.

I’d prefer putting them all on some Pacific atoll that’s about to be swallowed up by rising sea levels. Poetic justice IMHO; let’s see them deny that.

I had to laugh when they put that into at least two letters I have seen. As if they always consult/inform Democrats when they do something.

Republicans really are the meltiest of snowflakes.
