That’s how you do it, folks…
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - Lao Tzu
They’ll be milkshook!
And Ross and Barr are going to wipe their arses with the contempt letters once they run out of pages from the constitution.
And Ross can barely remember what he had for breakfast
Contempt is sooooooo the right word for what they are doing.
This is important, because this issue, more than the Mueller report, shows the Trump administration trying to change the system in a corrupt way to guarantee Republican power. The evidence is completely clear on this, and their attempt to avoid Congressional oversight is a clear cover up of their actions. The courts backed this up very strongly…they should back this up as well, because there is no justifiable reason in a nation ruled by laws for the behavior of the Republican party and the defendants in this matter
If the SC backs up the administration on the citizenship question it will be a serious indication that the rule of law is broken and Republicans are making their move towards dictatorship. All of this is much easier to understand, and the evidence more clear, than what Mueller put out (which is pretty clear itself), it really will cross a line if this is allowed to go forward, and I think the American people can be made to understand it pretty easily.
exactly. Trump’s stratagy is to just drag it all out, and the only way to counter this is to keep pressing forward, holding people in contempt, and then try out different things, court actions, eventually arresting and holding someone in custody, fines, etc.
This is a multi-front war on Trump, and the democrats need to keep pushing on every front.
Nothing shows backbone better than taking more than two months to hold a contempt vote. (And that’s just for Barr…Ross has been obstructing for about five months thus far.)
The know the Congressional session only lasts 24 months, right?
You do know this is a nation of laws, that due process requires time and patience, and that kangaroo courts are just as destructive as anything the Trumpers are doing, right? Of course you did.
In a just world, Wilbur Ross would die in prison. Penniless.
I don’t need a hearing to hold these two in contempt.
The vote is in — a contempt vote it will be.
What we need is an iron-clad, open and shut case of corruption and obstruction by any senior cabinet member – a case that will finally break Trump’s undeserved winning streak and start a tsunami wave of disruption in his mob-administration house of cards.
And I can’t think of a finer case and pair of cabinet members to take the hit than Ross/Barr and the census-cum-voter suppression case.
Ok, so I’m not feeling it yet.
Let’s say they vote on this and it’s a definite yea.
Does that mean someone gets the pokey, or are we just going to draw another line in the sand for them to spit on?
Is this really going to be the beginning of enforcing responsibility?
Was there anything in your patronizing response that justified the slow process?
Of course there wasn’t.
There are two types of people: those that argue using facts and those that only have tone.
all trump really needs to do is say the words “executive privilege” and this basically goes away.
buts its a good distraction from the leadership’s refusal to make any move toward Trump’s impeachment, so its not a total waste.
Instead of contempt, just start impeachment proceedings against Ross for trying to rig the census, and then lie about it. And subpoena the documents as evidence. Give him two days, then take him to court to compel document production…
Excellent
As disgusting, unethical and illegal as the Trump admin is, every ounce of its evil is focused on getting its way…and it sure seems to be working. The GOP cannot be shamed or embarrassed, so public opinion means zero to it. It’s like the shark described in JAWS: A perfect eating machine. There are no morals in the GOP; no compassion; just pure political evil and greed. Contempt charges mean nothing to these hollow men. It’s a mortal battle of attrition and the republicans don’t care how many casualties they suffer in the quest for power. (see Pruitt, Sessions, Zinke, Tillerson, Hicks, Priebus, Flynn, Dodd, and on and on).
Due process
- Subpoena document. Give one week for compliance. If documents not produced, go to step 2
- Notify subject of a contempt vote if documents are not produced in 24 hours If documents not produced, go to step 3
- Pass contempt citation resolution. Also pass resolution authorizing an impeachment investigation, based on two grounds
a) covering up whatever the original documents were intended to reveal
b) ignoring a subpeona - subpoena the document using impeachment powers Give 24 hrs to comply If documents not produced, go to step 5
- Request a court order compelling document production relevant to impeachment case. Request expedited review, given the time limits involved in the census situation.
from that point on, its up to the courts… but it should take only about 2 weeks to respect due process, but get the case into the courts under favorable conditions if need be
