And the other article that went up five minutes before this one …

Oversight Okays Subpoena To Former White House Security Clearance Official

Yes, you get a subpoena. And you get a subpoena. Everybody gets a subpoena!

That’s apparently the only hope for getting the administration to respond. We’ll have to see whether or not they try to blow these off as well.

Poor Mr Cummings will age ten years while this administration s(h)its in the White House.

Administration officials have balked at answering certain questions from lawmakers about how the question, which stands to discourage immigrant participation in the census, landed on the decennial survey. The administration has pointed to the litigation around the question as reasons not to answer lawmakers’ queries, and has also claimed the right to keep conversations with the White House confidential, even without President Trump formally invoking executive privilege.

So if I’m understanding this correctly Cummings wants testimony/answers from DoJ and Commerce, but DoJ and Commerce are refusing because Trump may invoke executive privilege? How can they claim they can’t turn over their agency documents because of executive privilege? I thought the DoJ wanted the question for something about voting rights. Is the DoJ now going to claim that it was a lie and and that really the President wanted this question to be added? By refusing they’re admitting it’s all on Trump, correct?

The idea of Congressional committees not demanding responses from the administration because they “may invoke executive” privelage, and possibly getting away with that dodge, is very unfortunate. Why, when you hold a majority on the committee, would you abdicate power to the executive branch like this? That’s particularly the case for this executive.

Right because if this continues then every administration can just magically cloak all agencies under the Executive branch to do the same.

It’s essentially “because we don’t want to”, and as long as the committee chair says “Well, OK, that’s fine with me, we didn’t really want the answer anyway” then it’s all good…

I do wish you could just call for the sergeant at arms.

I remember watching some of the committee hearings when the Republicans were in control and the witnesses pretty much said “I can’t/won’t talk about conversations that I had with the President.” None of the Republicans challenged the witnesses. So with Ross did he really talk to the Pres.? Was this Miller saying that he had talked to the Pres. and Trump wanted Ross to do this? And for fucks sake Trump can’t even remember that his father Fred was born in NYC and it was his Grandfather that was the immigrant.

Where are the perjury charges? Ross lied under oath about DOJ asking him to include citizenship. Turns out, Ross asked DOJ to ask him. He was even given an opportunity to retract his statement, but refused.
