Discussion: House Oversight Chair: White House Is Stonewalling All Of Our Doc Requests

Subpoena!
Say it loud and there’s music playing,
Say it soft and it’s almost like praying.

Subpoena,
I’ll never stop saying subpoena!
The most beautiful sound I ever heard.

Subpoena.

I don’t think the supremes will go with the executive on this one. Because at some point republicans in congress are going to want to harass a democratic president.

And resisting to run out the clock come with its own problems, namely a democrat in the white house and honest people at DoJ.

Googling a bit he supposedly knows 7 languages conversationally. If true, it’s a talent I definately don’t have. Been half assed trying to learn Spanish, one of his 7, for more years than I care to admit and am still not conversational, unless that means you can say Hi how are you, I’m fine, thank you.

And thanks to the “liberal” media, 7/8 of the American public won’t know about any of this. Why doesn’t the screeching work for us? Why does the Fox mindset permeate so much more efficiently? A timeless question…

The questions which should be asked are:

“Why is the WH not complying?”
“What does the WH have to hide?”

Bear in mind that Cummings knew the answer when he sent the nicey-nicey letter.
Bear in mind that Cummings knows what is likely the answer to his subpoena(s).
Bear in mind that there is a political cost to this
Bear in mind that Trump still operates in a world where there are political costs***
Bear in mind that Cummings is part of a larger storm of hurt coming down on Trump

***If Trump were immune to politiical costs he would have fired Mueller and everybody else fucking with him out the gate

Re: Pete Buttigieg
I went to the South Bend library to hear him speak last evening. Please read his book, Shortest Way Home, actually written by Pete(!). He is articulate, thoughtful, and very, very smart.

It says a lot about him that he won the mayoralty (twice, by 80% the second time) as an out gay man (who married his spouse last summer) - in “Red State” Indiana.

So the young dynamic white guy thing is only working for Beto apparently. Who says Democrats aren’t as superficial as the next guy?

The problem here for the White House is they have no documented policies to submit. In the case of Kushner’s security clearance Don the Con just told them that he wanted this done immediately.

Because every minute Kushner was not privy to America’s secrets the tRump family was losing big money.

ALL RIGHT!!!

Time for a “STERNLY WORDED LETTER”!!!

That’ll teach them what oversight means!

Doing what is right is normal and is expected. Not much to get excited about.

Doing what is wrong is exciting! Doing wrong gives you an adrenaline rush, and makes you feel good, like you’re really sticking it to the man!

Fox advocates doing what is wrong in every way, shape, and form. That is why it is so successful.

Was just in Indiana a couple weeks ago, although just to fly into Evansville airport to go to Henderson KY. Nice areas along both sides of the oHIo river though! Just put it on hold at my local library!

Yeah, it’s stonewalling and could be obstruction.

It is also just another sign of WH disfunction: it’s not only an administrative mess, it is increasingly understaffed and/or staffed with incompetents, so even if there were any intent to comply with congressional document requests (yeah not likely), actually doing it would be a problem in its own right.

“The problem is that the White House is engaged in an unprecedented level of stonewalling, delay and obstruction,” Cummings wrote.

Clearly, one branch of the government is still run by the GOP.

Yes.

And one could ask Pelosi what to do as well – but even raising the question might betray a lack of faith in her abilities.

Because the volume of the minds in question is so much lower than average, saturation happens quickly.

I’m excited because doing wrong is quickly turning democracy into fascist totalitarian rule, all over the world. Now that so many of us are excited, and the majority, let’s get rid of these dirt bag delinquents. Time’s a wastin’.

Everything about this is a political theater. He is announcing the WH is not cooperating, with enough political support he will issue subpoenas, take them to court etc.

Good article. To summarize, subpoenas will result in non-compliance due to executive privilege and conscious delays, contempt will go to court for more delays, and Congress’ 2-year term will expire. The Issa vs. Holder (Obama presidency) contempt lasted 3.5 years, where it became moot. Issa actually passed a House resolution to speed up the process, which died in the Senate.

Whatever promise litigation may hold for House committees, the lag time is simply too great to be a useful cudgel that many people imagine. Instead, committees will likely rely on legislative and appropriations retaliation when they don’t get what they asked for.

Personally, I would go with the dormant policy where the House sergeant-at-arms imprisons a contemnor (after a trial before the full House) on Capitol property.

And the problem with going through these pointless steps is that they take time.
