House leadership and the White House are working on a so-called manager’s amendment that they hope can straddle the different objections that Republican hardliners and the more moderate members have to the legislation in its current form.
Man is Paul Ryan desperate right now. He’s so close to killing off the poor and sick he can taste it.
And the Republicans complained for 8 years the ACA was rushed through Congress.
Come on Paulie, if your plan is so good, what is the rush? Let the plan stand on its own legs, for all to see.
Said it yesterday and I will say it again: House Dems need to introduce a “Medicare-for-all” alternative bill RIGHT NOW. One that drives a stake into the heart of this monstrosity. Or, at the very least, a bill that would offer “Public Option.” No chance of passing, but the optics couldn’t be better in the current morass…
I just heard Paul Ryan interviewed and he actually said that the Democrats let secretaries write up the ACA on Christmas Eve in the basement of the capitol. (He wasn’t challenged on that ridiculous assertion either). Now, he said, the GOP will put the bill forth without the details and Tom Price can fill in the language later. And Ryan is supposed to be the “policy wonk.”
Years from now they’ll call this the Charge of the Dumb Brigade.
Eddie doesn’t know how to corral his caucus. The bill won’t pass, I don’t think. Too many Freedom Caucus objections and they rule the House.
Yeah, taking a year and a half sure qualifies as “rushing” the ACA through Congress.
The whole “repeal and replace” farrago smells of stale desperation and old regret.
I cannot wait to see Ryan with egg on his face because a) the bill fails to pass or b) has to be withdrawn to prevent an embarrassing loss.
Why would we want to improve the optics for the GOP? As long as we stay out of it - and we should, we already passed a health care bill and it was working - the morass is all on the GOP.
The minute we open our mouths we’ll get blamed for any and everything the public doesn’t like. No. We stay out of it.
All Dems need to do is point out that the AHCA is basically just a ruse to create tax cuts that would only benefit wealthy Americans. The GOP will never give up the tax cuts, because they’re the point of the whole bill. They don’t give a damn about anyone’s health care.
The bill is effectively dead already. Dems need only tell the truth about what’s in the bill because it’s damning enough on its face.
No need to throw the GOP drowning men life preservers. Their own greed has done them in.
That risks opening up divisions within the Dem caucus and wouldn’t really accomplish much at this point. Better to propose some solid improvements to the ACA.
Seriously - it’s far and away better to do nothing at all. Just let them flounder.
We can worry about fixing stuff when we’re the majority again but all we should do is obstruct - not fix anything for them.
Seeing Ryan humiliated for his legislative failure would be a real pleasure. He is such an arrogant p*ick.
