Discussion: House Judiciary Chairman: Not 'Necessary' To Fix Voting Rights Act

Discussion for article #232020

Because the ability to vote has a known liberal bias. Man, itā€™s going to be a long two years of congressional committee chairs saying stuff.

CJ Roberts said racism doesnā€™t exist, so thereā€™s thatā€¦

ā€œIt is not necessary to fix the Voting Rights Act, because if we did Iā€™d be the ranking minority member of the committee and we wouldnā€™t have a Republican President again in my lifetime.ā€

ā€˜He said Republicans have studied the issue and solicited input from experts.ā€™

ā€¦So they would know which direction they should run away from.

Iā€™d like to take this opportunity to give one more of the many big shout-outs Iā€™ll be dishing out for the next two years to every single Democrat who didnā€™t feel like it was important to vote last November and/or in November, 2010.

Thanks to your apathy/stupidity/cupidity/sulking or whatever other thing motivated your refusal to take half an hour out of your life, drag your sorry asses to a polling place and fucking vote, Bob Goodlatte, Bob Fucking Goodlatte, is the chairman of the House Judiciary committee.

Way to go guys and gals, well done, well done indeed. Give yourselves a big pat on the back.

Itā€™s Bob Goodlatte. He believes that we need to go back to the way things were prior to the Voting Rights Act (as heā€™s a good little Confederate, he just hides it better than most).

Itā€™s become a truism at places like DK that ā€œwe need better candidates.ā€ While that might be the case, itā€™s equally true that we need better voters. Iā€™m never going to give anybody a pass for laziness and disinterest.

Iā€™ve heard time and time again that Democrats and Republicans are exactly the same.

Right.

/sigh.

Good commentā€”but you mean ā€œuninterest.ā€

ā€œDisinterestā€ means impartiality.
ā€œUninterestā€ means they didnā€™t give a shit.

Iā€™d like to know who taught Goodlatte to tie his shoes?

It must have taken years and years to accomplish, and whoever it was should get a medal.

Presidential elections are inherently about what youā€™re for, midterms are inherently about what youā€™re against and/or what you fear. That gives Democrats a natural motivational advantage in presidential years and Republicans a natural motivational advantage in the midterms. But FFS, if youā€™re too fucking high-minded to accept that it is as important to cast a negative ballot as a positive one, immigrate to Happy Gumdrop Fairy Tale Land and if youā€™re too lazy or too busy to vote or just donā€™t think it matters, you might be happier in China.

ā€œHe said Republicans have studied the issue and solicited input from experts.ā€

He failed to enumerate his experts: Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.

Regrettably true all that, Steve. Hell, I went so far as to sign up to vote in the Ā® primary in order to vote against some of the egregious assholes vying to get on the ballot here in NH. Voted against them again in the general - although not with complete success. But then Iā€™m one of those old white guys whoā€™s got the time and inclination to voteā€¦ Yeah, itā€™s gonna be a long two years.

In other words ā€œWhatā€™s the problem? Itā€™s doing what we intended it to do. Protect the majority for white people. Why is this a problem?ā€

Quite true. Then again, the so-called Blew Dogsā€™ days were always numbered. In my opinion, we need a new formula. I have faith that people actually do give a shit, theyā€™re just by and large frustrated.

You forgot David Duke and his bosom buddy Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

Remember, theyā€™re not racists. And those who think so are the real racists.
