Discussion: House GOPer Subpoenas DOJ For Docs On Page Surveillance, Clinton Probe

I wonder if Rep. Bad-latte even recognizes that he is part of the problem or if he even knows the problem exists. The guy’s retiring. So he’s either doing because he’s hoping for a judgeship or other federal job, or because he lives in such Fox/GOP Caucus bubble that he believes this shit.

I spent too much time wondering about how these guys’ minds work. They’re generally not bright, but are they so dumb that they really think they’re doing good things? Are they so craven and devoid of values that they just do it out of opportunism regardless of what it means for their country … and their grandchildren? How does Bad-latte rationalize this shit?

The human mind is quite a marvel.

The mind is quite a marvel and there’s nowt so queer as folk. In my experience the villains often at least half believe they’re justified and not bad people. People can easily believe what they feel like believing, no matter how absurd and illogical. That’s a difficult lesson to learn if you’ve always tried yourself to think clearly. The mind really is a kind of tabula rasa on which you can write 2 + 2 = 5 with no particular repercussions.

H/T for Evin Dunces. That’s best nickname for a Republican I’ve seen since Charlie Pierce’s for Reince Preibus (“Obvious Anagram”).

I saw a great tweet from a former Clinton staffer this week, can’t place it right now, that basically drew the line from Russia to Cambridge Analytica to Trump Campaign to RNC (through joint funding agreements). In other words, as Josh is fond of saying, nobody comes away clean.

OK good, I’m not as stupid as a Republican member of Congress.

Thanks. My dad and I used to do those JUMBLE puzzles in the morning paper every morning as a kid. I have a book of them now I still do for fun.

That was my reaction also. He won’t have to try very hard to find “evidence of bias, trending toward animus,” and it isn’t going to point in the direction he’s looking.

As Mueller’s investigation into potential ties between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia intensifies, Republicans in Congress have been increasingly critical of the Justice Department and FBI’s investigative process and accused investigators of operating with bias against Trump.

Well, i would assume the FBI does carry a strong bias against criminals and threats to this nation’s security. Goodlatte apparently thinks criminals and T rump are mutually exclusive. They’re not. They are the same thing.

General Kelly presents his views at a high level meeting welcoming John Bolton to the team.

My guess: this is an attempt to gaslight the upcoming release (in April, according to reports) of the FBI IG’s report on actions surrounding the campaign. An investigation, worth remembering, begun to uncover just what was going on in the NY Field Office and its role in forcing the “Comey letter”.

I think they know this is going to be very bad. Hence the calls to fire Mueller. Hence getting McCabe out of the way, because whatever they claim he did will be a nothingburger compared to what Rudy’s friends were up to back then. Maybe even why the NYT was suckered into writing that “No connections between Trump and Russia” story a week before the election - something they’ve never bothered to explain themselves.

Watch this space.

You keep hearing about how the FBI, an organization loaded to overflowing with republicans, is somehow prejudiced against drumpf and is trying to get him.

Since the whole purpose of the FBI is to fight crime, and the people in the FBI have internalized that ethos for years, of course they’re trying to take drumpf and his coterie down. This is a crime family since the get go and have always been that way since grandpa drumpf got his start in drugs and prostitution.

Don’t forget Wray’s firm is tied directly tied to Gazprom and other Russian Energy interests- prominently mentioned in the Steele Document.

It’s not an accident he is where he is.
